As I reached the lunch room, it was the normal. Kids bustling around, trying to get their lunches before the bell rang, cheerleaders gossiping about which football star has the cutest butt, geeks talking about the upcoming chess tournament, and Jane talking about how hot Channing Tatum is. I grabbed a tray from my left, and began walking down the line with Jane. "I mean, he just has that body of an angel." I heard her say, as I looked around trying to see if Markus was any where near. "Jess, are you even listening to me?" She asked, waving her hands in front of my face.
"Nope." I laughed, popping the p at the end of the word. I watched as she glared at me, "You talk about the same thing every single day." I laughed, pushing her forward.
"I know, but you have to admit how hot he is." She said, grabbing an apple.
"I thought you liked Markus?" I asked, making a face, like she was in complete love with this new guy.
"Oh shut up!" She said, pushing me. I went backwards a little bit, but kept my balance.
"Careful there." I heard from my left. Turning around, I saw Markus standing there looking at me.
"Oh uhm... Markus. Yeah, I guess were all a little clumsy sometimes." I said, bringing up what he said at church.
"Yeah, we are. Wouldn't want you to get hurt, now would we?" He asked, his eyes flickering with shades of reddish-black in them. I looked deep into them completely confused.
"What are your eyes always changing colors?" I asked, unable to stop myself.
"I have a condition." He said, grabbing the last apple from the tray in front of us. "When my feelings change, the color changes."
"So what happens when they turn reddish-black?" I asked, hoping he would answer my question considering thats practically the only color I see them changing to. He laughed, and looked down at the apple. Taking a bite from it, he looked up at me and Jane and said,
"Hungry." His voice was barely above a whisper. He walked off, leaving me and Jane completely creeped out. I looked over at Jane,
"Still think hes hot?" I asked, picking up my tray and walking away. As we sat down at the table our friends John, David, Brandi, and Blaire sat down with us.
"Have you guys seen that Markus kid?" Blaire asked as she sat down. "I mean hes so strange!" I nodded my head, completly agreeing with her. How would you think he wasn't strange?
"How could he not be strange?" I asked, taking a bite of my food. "You wanna know whats even weirder?" I asked, crossing my legs in my seat, and turning towards the others. They all looked at me, "I swear I had a dream about him." Brandi nearly chocked on her food, David started laughing and John looked like his eyes were going to pop out of his head at any moment.
"What?" Blaire asked, her fork slapping her plate.
"Seriously. I mean I thought it was just a dream, you know, like my imaginiation playing a trick on me or something? But I swear it felt so real." I went on to tell them everything that happened in the dream, everything I saw, everything I felt, and everything that happened. While I was telling the story, I felt eyes on the back of my head. I finished the story just as Markus walked by, his eyes glinting with red, and his smile deepend when he realized I was looking at him.
"What are you looking at?" John asked, looking up at him.
"Nothing. Jess, can I talk to you?" He asked. His voice sounded really strange, like he had been gargling nails or something.
"No you cant." John stood up, and began moving towards Markus. "I want you to stay away from her." He said, stepping in between the both of us.
"And what are you going to do about it?" He asked, his eyes flickering from me to John.
"Oh trust me dude, you dont want to know." He said, taking a step forward. Markus just laughed, but his face didn't change. I watched as John lifted his fist in the air to punch him, but Markus grabbed it and turned it around, almost breaking his arm.
"Awe look, the chicken wing." He laughed, turning John around so he was facing us instead of facing him. "How about a little more?" He asked, twisting it a little bit more. I watched in horror as Johns face turned even more into a grimmace, and his eyes squeezed shut in pain.
"Stop it!" I shouted, causing everyone to look at the scene. I heard gasps and slight cries as everyone realized what was going on. "Ill come with you, just please leave him be." I said, slowly walking up to John. Markus smile and let John go, I helped John sit down. "Are you alright?" I asked, looking him in the eyes. I had always like John, and I didn't want any harm to come to him. He nodded his head, but looked up at me. As I smiled, and began to walk the other way with Markus, John grabbed my arm,
"Please dont go with him." He begged, looking me in the eyes.
"Would you rather me talk to him for a little bit, or would you want him to break your arm even more?" I asked, my eyes raised for emphesis. I guessed he didn't want his arm broken anymore because he nodded his head and looked down. He let go of my arm and let me walk away with Markus. Once we got out of ear shot, Markus grabbed me and pulled me closer. "Let me go." I said, pushing him away from me.
"But why, I thought you liked me?" He asked, the smug look on his face.
"I never liked you, Jane did, and now she doesn't even like you." I said, pushing him away.
"But..." He started, but the bell rang.
"Oops, gotta go. The bell rang." I said, walking back to the table to get my tray and throw it away. Once I had my stuff, I quickly walked to the last class of the day. Of course Jane and the others were in it.
"What did he want?" Jane asked, sitting down next to me.
"He grabbed me at my waist, and pulled me tight against his body. I have to admit, he has a nice body, but hes just a freaking asshole." I said, closing my science book. She looked at me weirdly, "He thought I liked him, but I told him you liked him but now you think hes a freak." I laughed. She laughed with me, and we started listening to the teacher talk about nothing. Wait... did I just call school nothing? What is happening to me?
