Class went by quite fast, which was kind of weird because it normally goes by slow. I stood up, and began gathering my things. "So what are we going to do after school?" I asked. "I mean besides being with the popular dude, and an asshole?" I asked, laughing. Jane pushed me into a locker, causing me to laugh even harder.
"Oh shut up." She sneered, walking to class faster.
"You know you love me." I said, hooking my arm with hers.
"You're just a nerd. You straight-A loser." She laughed, tugging me into the classroom.
"How rude." I gasped, pretending to be offended. She just smiled, and walked into the classroom.
"Hello sweetheart." I heard from behind me. I saw Stephan standing there, "How are you doing?" He asked, looking me up and down.
"Better than you." I flipped him off. He just laughed and walked away. "You know, I thought being the nerd of the school was supposed to make everyone hate you, not want to sleep with you." I said, throwing my stuff on the table, and sliding into the chair. Jane just shrugged,
"I don't know. Thats what happened in all the movies." She said, looking me in the eyes. "But you cant back out of the date." She warned me, "You already pormised me you would go."
"Well technically I didn't promise." I took out a pencil, and a piece of paper for the assignment that Mrs. Lowery wanted us to do. "I said I would go, but I never said I promise." She glared at me, but lowered her head. I sighed, "Fine, I promise to go." She looked back up and smiled.
"Yay." She smiled. Oh gosh, my best friend is a freaking idiot, I thought to myself. Shaking my head, I looked back down at the blank piece of paper sitting in front of me.
"Oh shit." I said outloud, causing the teacher to look back at me. "Im sorry Mrs. Lowery." I said, my voice lowered. Jane looked at me weirdly, leaning forward so only Jane could hear me, I whispered in her ear. "I forgot to do the assignment on Abe Lincoln that was due today." I mentally beat myself up, I should have done that Saturday night but I got sick, and I had enough time to do it Sunday, but I was an idiot and fell back asleep after church.
"Well, can't you just quickly jot something down?" She asked, pointing down at the paper.
"No, I have to do research, I have to write a rough draft, then edit it, then a final draft, and shit I should have done it this weekend." I slapped my forehead with my hand, only to wince in pain. "And I forgot that cut was there." I sighed, rubbing the cut a little, before laying my head on the table.
"Alright class, take out the paper from Friday, and pass it forward." Mrs. Lowery said, as she walked in front of the rows. This was going to be the first time I didn't pass anything in, I knew she would be very upset with me. But then there was a sliver part of me that hopped she would take it easy since it was my first time missing an assignment. "Mrs. Edwards?" She asked, looking down at the papers. Stifiling through the papers, she looked back up at me. "Wheres your paper?" She asked.
"I uh.... I forgot to do it." I sighed. "But I promise you Ill do it tonight." I added really quick. She just smiled,
"Ill give you a warning since its your first time, but after that Im going to have to take off points." She warned, looking over her glasses that were hanging low on the brim of her nose. I nodded towards her, and lowered my head. I felt horrible, but everyone in class was glaring at me like I just committed a double murder right there.
"How come she gets to get off the hook and we dont?" One of the burn outs asked.
"Because she actually does her work, instead of 'totally smoking a joint brah'" Jane said, immitating the guys.
"Why dont you just shut up." He said, pointing at her.
"Why dont you both just stop so we can get back to work?" Mrs. Lowery asked, looking at the both of them. "If you dont Ill send you both to the principals office." I situated myself in my seat, I felt strange. I didn't know what it was, but it felt like someone was watching me. I rubbed the back of my neck, and looked up towards the classroom door. There set a pair of deep blue eyes, so dark they were almost black. I starred at them for a while until my eyes began burning. I had to blink. When I closed my eyes for a few seconds, I hoped he would disappear just like he did at church, but when I opened the door he was still standing there. His smile was just like it was yesterday, so inviting, yet it felt so dangerous.
"Ah, Mr. Markus." Mrs. Lowery said, looking up at him. He looked from me to her, and his smile deepend.
"Hello Mrs. Lowery." He said, walking towards her. This has got to be a dream, I thought to myself shaking my head.
"Everyone, this is Markus. Hes a new student. He joins us from..." Mrs. Lowery trailed off, looking over at Markus.
"Forks, Washington. Its a little town in the middle of Washington." He smiled. Handing her his schedule, he looked up and smiled at everyone in the class.
"Well Markus, why dont you go take the seat next to Ms. Jessica Edwards." She said, pointing to the empty seat next to me. No, no, no, why does he have to sit next to me? I set my head down on my desk, and didn't move until I heard the bell. When I stood up, I saw Markus still starring at me. What was his deal, I thought to myself.
"Come on Jane." I said, grabbing her arm, and pulling her out of class.
"Whats the problem Jess?" Jane asked me, nearly falling on the ground when we turned the corner.
"That Markus kid?" I said, stopping by our lockers.
"Yeah, hes hot huh?" She smiled. I looked at her,
"Really!? No, thats not what I was going to say." She looked at me, and just shrugged her shoulders. "I swear that guy is following me." I said, shoving my books in my locker. "I mean first hes at my church, and then he says it would be a shame if my family got hurt and then disappears. I mean who the hell says that then just vanishes into thin air?" I asked, turning towards her. She looked at me weirdly,
"Did he really do that?" She asked, her eyes completely shocked.
"Yes. But I mean, who the hell does that? And now he just so happens to be at this school? In the same class as me? I dont know, I just think its kind of weird." I said, grabbing my wallet, and walking with Jane to the lunch room.
