Chapter five

It was now Friday, Kacie and I's movie night. Fortunately, Hunter hasn't done anything for the rest of the two days of school left for the weekend. But, that doesn't mean I wasn't watching everything like a hawk. I've been so tense these past two days (Thursday and Friday), but now I can finally take a break and relax this weekend. Yep. Doesn't really help when he's next-door neighbors with you. I just can't help but feel like he's planning something. Call me crazy, but I just have this really weird feeling.

I was now currently in my room, packing some clothes for movie night at Kacie's house. School ended a few hours ago. Which means it's around 6 PM, an hour away from when Kacie will come by to pick me up.

Grabbing my brush from my vanity, my eyes caught the attention of my photo frame, perched next to all my essentials and stuff. It was a picture of my mom, dad and I. It was taken about 10 years ago when I was around 8 years old. It was a regular family portrait, us cuddled on the couch smiling at the camera. We looked happy. Unfortunately, that all ended a couple years later.

I reached my hand out and captured the simple bordered frame. My thumb grazed my father's face as the memories came flooding back.

  *Flashback*

It was a Summer day, the 7th of June. I was twelve years old then, playing in the backyard of our old house in Florida. Life surrounded me; plants, grass, beautiful flowers. My mother loved to garden. That's why our garden was so beautiful; not one dead plant. I was just doing what a happy kid would do. Laughing, jumping and running around. The sun felt nice on my skin as a cool breeze was blowing through the summer air.

I heard my father call my name from inside, my attention leaving the butterfly flying above the grass. "Coming!", I called as I got up on my feet and ran through the open sliding door, into my house. The cool air conditioning blew through my heated face due to the sun. I walked more into the house and my eyes searched for that always-jolly, positive man. After entering the kitchen, and not finding him there, I walked into the living room. ''I wonder where he is,'' I thought.

Just as I was about to move towards the stairs, I felt strong arms, I knew all too well, wrap around my tiny waist and lift me up into the air and spin me to face him. Giggles flew out of my mouth as  my father's smiling face came into view.

"Did I scare you?" His deep voice asked me, as my feet were back down on the floor. I shook my head no, smiling mischievously even though it did give me a little bit of a start.

"Oh really?" He smiled mischievously back as his hands reached out for my stomach, ready to tickle me, which he knew I hated. My eyes widened in alarm and before I could make a run for it, his fingers started tickling me. Laughter bubbled up inside of me, and before I knew it tears of laughing too hard, fell down my face as he tickled me, me sprawled on the floor; a mess.

"Nn-o never mind! I was j-us----haahahha stop-----kidding!", is all I managed to get out. His tickling stopped and I got up on my feet, playfully glaring at him.

"So what is it that you wanted to tell me, dad?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, just wanted to let you know that I'm heading out. Gonna hang out with a few of the guys. Is that okay with you?" he asked.

"It's okay, Dad. Just make sure you don't drink too much," I warned playfully, although knowing my dad, he was responsible enough and wouldn't drink too much so he could drive back here.
