Chapter Eleven
M.
The house was big, a gorgeous ranch style home which fit the acres and acres of grassy/snowy fields perfectly. To my right was a classic red barn that came up in an arch. To my left was a fenced in field that, in the distance, I could see horses walking around. I could distantly hear chickens clucking somewhere. Trees surrounded in every direction at the edges of the fields at every angle, snow piled high on every single branch. The sky was gray with layers of fluffy clouds, snow coming down in light fluffs, crunching underneath my feet as I walked across the acreage.
I knocked on the door and Axel and Riley waited with me for an answer. I felt a nervousness in my stomach. I had stayed at other people's houses once or twice, so I didn't understand why I was so anxious. I took a shaky deep breath and muttered "Suck it up Buttercup." I heard a squeal and the fast thumps of footsteps. Finally, the door swung open and Anna stood there a smile bigger than physically possible on her face.
"I'm so glad you actually came!" She squealed as she grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. She was a strong little thing. I stomped my feet on the mat, so the snow would come off and noticed that all the shoes were lined up on the wall. A "no shoe in house" policy. Classy, I thought as I unlaced my heavy boots and put them neatly next a pair of cowboy boots.
"I have so much planned. I have movies, and games, oooh we can play truth or dare, and twister!" I blinked as she kept talking. This girl didn't even seem to breath as she spoke. All of a sudden, she sucked in the air I figured she was missing. Ah, there it is. I grabbed her by the shoulders to stop her bouncing.
"Anna, pause." she froze, and it felt like her body was shaking like a Chihuahua. "Take a breath in," she did so "now let it out." she followed as I said. "Better now?" her head shook up and down incredibly fast.
"Alrighty, that's better." I chuckled.
"So, which one do you want to start with?" Anna asked. I lifted the grocery bag in my hand and said," How about we start with cookies?" Anna's eyes widened, and she looked at me like I was God.
"My angel." she whimpered as she grabbed the bag and ran down the hallway to what I assumed was the kitchen. I laughed as I followed her but at a more human like pace.
......
"Oh, my dear God Anna!" I screamed as cookie dough flew into my face. It was sticky and gross feeling as it slowly rolled down my forehead. As it fell to the floor I watched as Anna followed it to the tile, clutching her stomach as she cackled. As she laughed hysterically I grabbed the extended sprayer on the faucet and pointed directly at Anna. She opened her eyes just in time for them to widen and get water sprayed all over her.
"Aaahh!" She squirmed as she laughed, crawling away. She stood and stepped to me grabbing the hose and turning it around on me. Lukewarm water splashed over me soaking me from head to toe. I squeaked as I tried to run away. She grabbed me making me slip and fall forward. I tried to grab the counter but missed, grabbing the extra bowl of flour before falling, Anna screaming behind me as she followed.
I collided with the floor so hard my breath left my lungs.
"Owww." I wheezed as Anna laughed. I looked back to see her perfectly fine.
"Why aren't you hurting from that?" I cried.
"Cause your butt was an awesome cushion." she sat patting it and laughing.
"Oi, Danny I think you lost your girl to another girl!" I heard come from the hallway. My head shot up and my eyes widened as I took in Axel, Riley, and Asher standing in the doorway watching me.
Riley taunted Daniel as Anna smacked my bum. Axel muttered "Damn, what I'd give to be Anna right now." my eyes widened further, and I felt the burn in my cheeks as the blush crept up my neck. I wriggled Anna off me and went to stand.
"What're you guys doing here? Thought y'all went cave manning in the woods." Anna asked as we stood, water pouring off us and flour sticking to us.
"The hell is with this mess? We just cleaned up the kitchen Anna." Asher scolded his sister.
"We'll clean it up."
"Sure, you will, I had to damn near pull your teeth out to get your help earlier!" Anna looked down in defeat.
I looked towards Asher and stood in front of Anna. "Hey, we were just having fun, calm down we'll clean it up." He turned to me and I could tell he was angry.
"You'd better." he snapped, and I felt myself get angry. How dare he snap at us for having fun. We both said we'd clean it. I cocked an eyebrow and look at him.
"I'm sorry, but could you please repeat what you just said to me oh so rudely." I said taking a step towards him. He copied my step and we were face to face as he looked down at me.
"Did. I. Stutter?" he said cockily. I smirked at him as my right hand reached out. He didn't notice it, but the boys behind him did and their eyes widened as they started shaking their heads and muttering 'oh no' and 'don't do it'.
"You know Asher, I don't much like this angry face look. Doesn't suit you at all. Just not pretty."
"Oh yeah? And what is exactly?" he narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Cookie dough?" I said, and his eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
"Cookie d-" it smacked his face before he could say another word. There were gasps all around the room. Then complete silence. Asher was frozen and then he slowly turned his head to me. The look he had on his face made me want to laugh so hard but I knew I couldn't, the best thing I could do now is what he said next.
"Run."
"Gladly." I said as I turned and booked it back through the house. If he caught me, I would be so dead. But that was part of the fun when it came to the chase.
