Chapter 19

M.

I woke up with a jolt from a repeat dream from, now, two weeks ago. It was odd that I'd repeat the same dream every night. I wondered if it meant something my subconscious was trying to tell me. My thought process was cut short as I realized that I wasn't in my room like usual. I looked around as memories of last night replayed in my mind. Right I was in the Tyler's home...in Asher's room. My eyes widened at the realization that I was sleeping in Asher's bed. I could tell it was his room, because it was the one I had run into trying to get away from him two weeks ago. His scent floated in the air, quietly wreaking havoc on my senses.

I quickly stood, only to get tangled in the sheets and fall hard on the floor. The pain that shot through my back then made me cringe.

The knock on the door made my head shoot up as I scrambled to stand, wrestling with the sheets wrapped around me. Standing finally, I called out "Come in." the door burst open then as Anna ran through the doorway and slammed into me, both of us landing on the bed. My back screamed at the movement but that wasn't Anna's fault.

"Oh my God, I'm so happy, we're gunna have another sleep over, yay!" I laughed at Anna's antics. She leaned up, still slightly on top of me.

"I know a little bit of what happened, vaguely, Asher wouldn't say too much, said it wasn't his business to tell." She looked up at me sadly. Thankfully it wasn't pity. I patted her head.

"I'll tell you later, okay?" her sadness dissipated as she smiled down at me.

"Okay! We gotta get ready for school now, or we'll be late." She said as she scrambled off me and out of the room.

I stepped out of the bathroom freshly showered and dressed. I headed back to Asher's room for my boots. Opening the door, I walked in and headed to my bag. There was a sound to my right that caught my attention. I turned my head and let out a squeal.

"Holy crap, you scared me!" Asher jumped as he walked out of his closet. I couldn't respond. I was speechless as I looked at the sight in front of me. Half-naked he was a marvelous sight to behold. His jeans were slung low on his hip, unbuttoned at the top letting me see the light rail of hair that lead to his boxers. My eyes followed up the trail to his stomach, it was still tanned from summer time, his abs popping out in a six pack that no senior should have. His chest was tight and shaped perfectly leading to his shoulders and biceps which were well defined as he stood there holding the shirt he was going to change into in his hand.

I felt the heat in my face rise but couldn't stop staring at him. He was so handsome. My eyes drifted up to his face and caught his eyes. His look made me stopped breathing. It was so powerful, so full of an emotion I couldn't decipher. All of a sudden, he began walking towards me. I backed away from him, but my legs hit the bed, effectively knocking them out from under me. I landed flat on the bed and hurriedly tried to get up but that wasn't how it went. I felt his hand on my shoulder pushing me and looked up to him leaning over me.

"Whatchya lookin' at darlin'?" he asked as his eyes pierced mine.

"N-nothing." I stuttered, "W-we gotta go, we'll be late f-for school."

"Maddie." His whisper plea of my name made me pause and look back at him. His expression looked sad as he grabbed my hand and lifted it to his chest.

"This, all of this...it's yours. What happened with Chl-"

"Guys we gotta go, we're gunna be late!" Anna's voice cut through the air and somehow brought me back to my senses.

That's right, he had that Chloe girl. Last night, him holding me, meant nothing.

"Get off me." I muttered as I felt the tears prick my eyes.

"Maddie ple-"

"I said get off!" He sighed then, standing and stepping away from me. I kept my head down as I quickly grabbed my boots and ran from the room. I crashed into Anna on the way to the front door.

"Hey, I thought you were with Asher?" she asked.

"No, he's still in his room." I said as I cleared my eyes of the tears.

"Is something wrong?" she asked. I shook my head.

"No, nothing." I said.

"Alright well, let's get going." I nodded as I felt Asher's presence behind me. I tensed.

"You driving?" she asked.

"Yeah." He said as I followed Anna out of the house. Sitting on the far side of the bench I rested my head again the glass as we picked everyone up.

I needed to stay away from Asher, I thought. Easier said than done though considering I was staying in his house for the next few days.
