Cassie was struggling to wake up. The sun was shining in her eyes, her alarm clock was going off, and Hunter was licking her face. She groaned and put her hand up to block the sun and the licks. "Hunter, it's Saturday," she whined. "The bakery doesn't open until ten."
She slammed her other hand on the clock and turned her body to snuggle up against Ben...only he wasn't there. She felt around the cold spot with her hand and momentarily confused as to why he wasn't there. Is he out of town? Did he have to leave again? Asshole. Always leaving--.
"Oh my God," she said aloud as her eyes bursted open. "I'm getting married." Suddenly Hunter let out a loud bark, making her jump. She turned to him and he was standing proudly on the bed with something tied to his collar.
Cassie sat up and scooted closer. "What do you have on here, huh?" She asked as she observed that it was a flower attached to a note. She untied the ribbon that held it on his collar and smiled when she noticed Ben's messy hand writing on the front that simply said; To my wife.
She opened it while clutching on to the flower and smiled as it read;
My darling Cassie,
Today is the day! Can you believe it? I'm still trying to process the fact that you had said "yes" to me that wonderful day in New Zealand. Nevertheless, I am so excited to see you this afternoon and to become your husband.
Speaking of which, make sure you dress warmly today. I know I'm not supposed to, but I snuck into the place in the middle of the night to get this on Hunter and you wouldn't believe it darling...but look out the window.
Cassie got up from the bed and went over to the curtains. She swung them open and gasped.
Snow! So much snow! It was literally a winter wonderland! She squealed and jumped back onto the bed. Hunter got excited and she got him to lay down next to her as she continued reading;
Told you I'd be damned if you didn't get the wedding of your dreams. But here you have it; the final piece! And can you believe I had to walk through all of that just to get here because there weren't any cabs out? Christ, the things I do to be a romantic sod.
Well, I will let you get changed and prepped for our big day. Honestly, you could wear sweatpants and shoes and I'd still want to marry you. Point being, you're going to look gorgeous. I know it.
I love you, Cassandra Hansen. I am so lucky.
Love,
Your husband (in a few hours anyways)
Cassie sighed happily and put the note to her chest, while falling back on the bed. "I love this man," she said happily to herself. She put a hand on Hunter's back and continued to be in a dreamy state, when there were suddenly pounding noises on her door.
As quickly as she could, she scrambled up and stuff the note and flower into her nightstand. Just as she slammed it shut, the door swung open to every. Single. Woman. Member. In. Her. Entire. Family. They all came rushing in, shouting about why she wasn't up yet how she hasn't eaten, how there wasn't any time to eat!
She felt like she was in a scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Only, instead of Greeks, they're Italian.
They rushed her downstairs and starting throwing food her way while still shouting about things she couldn't understand. Nevertheless, she ate the food and followed the commands of her aunts and cousins.
