"Emma!" I yelled. She was walking into Granny's diner. "Hey kid." She stopped right before the walkway and turned toward me with a smile. "Do you want to get breakfast with me?" I asked her. She put arm arm on my shoulder. "Sure." She said.

We sat down at a booth in the corner. Normally we sit at the bar but I dragged her to the booth. I wanted to start dropping some hints about mom and I didn't want everyone else to hear. "Woah Henry." Emma said when I pulled her by her arm over to the seat. "I just want to change it up." I said convincingly.

Ruby came over to us with her pen and paper. "You two want the usual?" She asked. Ruby and Emma had become friends since Emma spends so much time here. "I want a stack of pancakes, lots of syrup and coca with cinnamon." I answered. Ruby turned her head to look at Emma. "I'll take the same." She smiled. "Coming right up." Ruby said turning around.

"So kid how's everything going?" Emma asked. "Pretty good. My mom is doing good too." I smiled at her. I was trying to see if she had a reaction. "She is? That's good." She said straight faced. "Are you planning on staying for a while?" I questioned. "Henry." She sighed. "What? I want you to stay. You are my mom. Don't you wanna stay?" I've been trying to get her to stay for a couple of weeks. It's already been a month anyway. She has to want to stay at least a little bit. "I do want to stay. I just have to find a job and somewhere to stay." Emma smiled at me.

"Well did you hear they're looking for a sherif? I'm sure if you talked to mom she'd give you the job." I pushed. "Henry, your mom doesn't want me to stay." Emma looked defeated in a way. "You know I don't think that's true." She gave me a look. A questioning one. "Do you see the way she looks at me? I'm sure she doesn't like me very much." She stated.

Just then Ruby walked over with our food and our drinks. She set it all down, made sure we were okay and then walked away. Emma and I were silent for a few minutes. Both of us were busy eating our breakfast. Once we finished Emma left a couple of dollars on the table. "Come on kid. I'll walk you to school." She said standing up.

We didn't talk for a block. Then I stopped walking. Emma didn't notice but once she did she turned to me. "She likes you." I said. "What?" She asked me. She walked up to me. "I read her diary okay? She likes your butt and your fancy hair." I smiled at the small smile that appeared across her face. "She thinks it's fancy?"

Emma's POV

As I walked Henry to school this morning, he told me about what he read in Regina's diary. Since the moment I saw her I felt an instant pull to the woman.

For starters she is gorgeous. Incredibly gorgeous. Not to mention she took car of the kid that I gave birth to for the last 12 years. That was kind of a turn on.

I just always thought she hated me. Henry told me her read her diary cause he saw that she didn't hate me but instead saw something different. I never saw that. But was I just oblivious to something that was obvious the entire time?

My mind is kind of twisted right now. I'm not sure what to do. Should I tell the woman that I know? What if she has already gotten over those feelings for me? Maybe I should take some time to figure out how I feel and how she feels. It's going to be hard to see her and know this.

I walked up the stairs in the city all building. I'm nervous. I can feel my palms sweating. I'm not sure why I'm so nervous. She doesn't know that I know and I don't have to tell her. I wiped my palms off, took a deep breath and continued through the door that lead to the door to her office.

Sitting outside of the black door was Ashley, Regina's assistant. "Hi. I'm here to see Mayor Mills." I smiled. The girl behind the desk looked tired. She had blonde hair and bags under her eyes. I've learned that Regina works people hard. I started to wonder if this girls stressed look was cause by Regina's demands or if maybe she had a crazy life. "What's your name?" She asked. "Emma Swan." I said and she nodded. She picked up the phone and said you have a Miss Swan here to see you to the other line. She nodded and hung up. "Go ahead in." She pointed to the door.

When I walked in Regina was sitting at her desk. Her face was down staring at whatever paper she was writing on. She didn't even look up when she said, "Can I help you Miss Swan?" "Uh.. How are you?" Oh dammit Emma. Act normal. You would never normally ask that. Regina raised her eyes to meet mine and raised an eyebrow. "I'm good." She answered. "So I was thinking about staying actually. I mean I have to find a place to live cause I can't stay at Granny's forever but I heard about the job as sherif that's open and I was wondering if I could have the job?"

I obviously ramble when I'm nervous. How could I not be nervous with her staring at me? That lifted eyebrow could kill me. Get yourself together Emma. You've felt like this about this woman since you saw her and all of a sudden you turn into a wreck. Play it cool.

Regina didn't answer me. I don't know if she was thinking of avoiding the question. "Henry asked me to stay. I mean that's not the only reason that I want to but he did and I'm qualified for the job. I was a bonds person in Boston and I'm sure I got a lot more action in that job then I would as sherif here in this little town." I broke eye contact to stare at the floor and rubbed the back of my neck with my hand. When I looked back up Regina was still staring at me. I could've swore for a second she was smirking at my rambling. But it was gone faster than it appeared.

"You can have the job. You'll need to go talk to David Nolan at the station. He's the only one working there now." Now she was the one breaking eye contact. She looked back down at her paper work and continued writing. "Thank you, Regina." I said and that moment I saw her pen stop writing. She didn't say anything though so I turned on my heels and walked out of her office.

Maybe I stand a chance.
