A loud cry erupted from the corner where Nathanael stood, and before anyone could do anything, Hawk Moth was knocked off his feet and onto the cold ground.
You gasped, recoiling and the sight of him collapsed, most likely passed out. Nathanael stood above your father, smirking proudly.
"N-Nath? W-what?" You gasped. He turned to face you as Chat Noir and Ladybug came rushing over.
The light from the window brightened, the pale light reflecting off of their faces. Your friends looked like ivory statues, staring at you with betrayed expressions.
Their eyes shone with tears, and you soon realized what you'd done.
"Guys, I didn't mean, I swear I wasn't going to-"
Nathanael interrupted you rudely to add a disappointed: "I can't believe I faked being akumatized to help you. I mean, it's obvious that someone with a miraculous could handle it anyway. I just don't believe it."
Chat Noir and Ladybug glared at you, not daring to speak. Slowly they left, not turning back. Their silhouettes faded farther into the darkness and out of the open door.
You fumbled for words, croaking out random sounds of remorse.
Unexpectedly, Nathanael pulled you into a tight hug, letting out a shaky sob.
"(Y/n), after all we've been through, after all you've been through, you have to chose what side you're on. There's so much more to you, I realize that. But...you're confusing me...and the others."
You choked up, pulling away slightly. He slowly changed back from his inverted form using his tablet to erase the color layer. Soon, the Dessinateur had transformed back into Nathanael.
"What are we going to do about your dad?" He mumbled, noting your helpless speechlessness.
"I-I'm not sure," you choked out, walking over to the man who controlled your whole life. "I'm not even sure why I made the deal. It was all so sudden. He's so manipulative..."
"Sounds like someone I know," Nathanael laughed halfheartedly, lightly nudging you. "Like father like daughter."
You pursed your lips, smiling through tears.
"I'm not so sure anymore." You stated, striding over to Hawk Moth and scooping up his butterfly pin. You turned it's cold figure in your hand, relishing it's power.
Nathanael jogged over to you excitedly, stumbling to reach your spot.
"You-you took it! And it didn't...what...it chose you, (y/n)!" He grinned cupping your hand in his.
You stared at him confusedly, looking up at his awestruck expression. He made sure not to touch the miraculous as you held it.
"Well, you disarmed him. Not many people can actually disarm someone with a miraculous! It's chosen you. It's yours." He laughed, scooping you up and spinning you around.
You giggled and blushed, pinning the butterfly in your purple streaked hair.
Hawk Moth remained still and almost lifeless on the ground, shifting ever so slightly in his unconsciousness.
"I-I just can't believe it." You stuttered. "Wait, since I have a miraculous, who's my kwami?" Peering around, you gasped to see a purple and black butterfly kwami zoom out from behind Hawk Moth.
"Hello!" She squeaked, wiggling her antennae. You and Nathanael giggled, grasping each other's hands shyly.
"I'm Aubrí! It's so so so amazing to be gone from that terrible villain." She sniffed, grinning sincerely.
"It's nice to meet you Aubrí, I'm (y/n)." You introduced, patting her head lightly. "But how do you belong to me? I didn't kill him did I? Why me?"
"Well first of all, I don't 'belong' to you." Aubrí scoffed, curling her antennae and crossing her tiny arms. "I chose you. You put him in a position of possible failure, so I was able to decide if I were to be passed on to the strongest one near me. You." She tapped you lightly, on the nose, making Nathanael chuckle.
"This is happening fast, isn't it?" He observed, turning towards you. "In the end, you really earned it. I'm-" but he was cut off by a raspy voice coming from the floor.
You all rushed over to him, looking down upon his curled up shape on the ground. He craned his neck up to speak to you, eyes filled with pain and regret.
"There's more. There's more Kwami's, and more Miraculouses and more superheros. Find them. They're going to...urghh..." Your dad gasped in one breath. He then groaned, starting to deteriorate.
"Dad? Dad! Dad!!" You cried, shaking him awake. Tears rolled down your cheeks, mixing with hot saliva.
Parts of him flaked off, turning into paper thin butterflies. One by one, they fluttered out of the large window, and into the isolated streets of Paris.
Nathanael placed a warm hand in your shoulder, feeling the rise and fall of your desperate cries.
He stood up and walked somewhere in the other room, but you couldn't tell where. All that mattered was that the last and only bit of family you had left was gone. Forever.
You let out more cries of agony, enraged and hurt.
Helpless cried echoed around the large room, making you feel smaller. You had so much power now, but the thought of loosing your father crippled you. Where would you live? Who would take care of you?
"I didn't want this to happen! I never asked for any of this!" You screamed, pounding your fist onto the ground.
"Once you lose a miraculous, you can't live without it." Aubrí confirmed in a mellow tone. "There's nothing that you could have done.."
You whipped around to glare at her, but seeing her guilty expression, you turned back and sighed.
"I just need some alone time to process all of this," you sniffed, getting up. Tears streaming down your face, you sprinted out of the complex and out into the streets.
Nathanael soon came rushing back, holding your bag which was lost during the akumatized tornado. He peered around, heart sinking.
You'd already left.
