Chapter Three: The Fire

We were all playing a game of Monopoly. It was a cool game, and I've never seen anyone get as competitive as Wally, "Come on now, this is like the fifth time I've been put in jail, when I get out I'm taking all your money!"

"Wally", Artemis said,"the game is better when you're in jail."

We all laughed agreeing.

I gotta admit, it was so strange being around a lot of people and actually interacting with them. I dunno if I liked it or not.

"Cara Mills" a voice cut off our laughter, it was Batman.

"Yeah?" I answered kind of annoyed, I mean Batman is cool and all but sometimes he's a bit of a buzz kill.

"We have news about the fire"he announced.

Instantly I got up and ran toward him, "What is it? Monroe! Did you find him-"

"While we didn't find your brother",Batman started,"we did find out who was behind the fire" He held up pictures of three large men, who looked very familiar.

My jaw dropped with disbelief, I couldn't believe it. I knew who those men were. They were Monroe's  friends.

"I know who these guys are" I muttered distastefully,"They're  Monroe's friends".

"We arre currently tracking them down" Batman informed, "But there's one more thing that needs to be discussed"

I glanced back and the team was now standing. Megan, looking concerned. Robin looking, well, he had no emotion, almost like a mini Batman,  and the rest just staring.

"Don't worry, we'll help you find your brother" Megan assured.

I looked up at her, "You will?".

She gave me a reassuring smile,"of course, we're a team right?"

"Everyone except Cara leave. I need to talk to her alone" Batman announced.

Once they shuffled out Batman told me how the fire in the shop was planned and how it wasn't normal fire.

I frowned,"What does that even mean 'Not normal fire'?"

Batman was probably getting tired of me interrupting him but he replied,"We sampled the ash and soot from the fire and came to conclusion that the fire was from another planet, it was miraculous that you survived considering it is highly lethal, more so than Earth's fire"

I face palmed, "No wonder there was purple smoke! I thought I was hallucinating."

"Now that you know this, and who's behind it you need to take some precautions. If you see them around contact the league. " He told me and started to walk off.

"Wait-" I called to him,"Batman-Sir, since I'm on this team do I get a cool name and an outfit upgrade?"

"Of course" He said and swooshed away dramatically with that cape.

"You're good, but not good enough" SuperBoy told me as I round house kicked the punching dummy, "Remember that you'll be fighting top of the notch villains".

I punched the punching dummy in the gut, then the head and eventually knocked him over.Superboy was good at firing me up, Of course I know I'm not good enough but you don't have to tell me that..

"Don't waste all your energy. Tomorrow Black Canary is coming to train you" Superboy or Connor or whatever he wanted me to call him said.

"Yeah" I sighed, "I'm super excited" He nodded his head and walked away not noticing the pun I just made.

I decided I was tired and went to my room which was mostly empty considering I didn't have anything besides my clothes and some books. Zatanna told me we could go shopping  soon and honestly I'm down for that, that girl has good taste and I really don't, so maybe she could give me a few pointers.

I lay on my bed thinking about my day, then eventually thinking about the fire and how I had survived. Monroe was gone and I was here. Wow, my life had changed so quickly and I was lonely despite being around so many people. Some nights when I was in the hospital I would cry myself to sleep. I will find my brother and I will get those people who took him. 

Finally I drifted off to sleep. It was a good sleep until I woke up and my left hand was on fire.

I screamed and threw a blanket over it but it didn't  extinguish it. Pain seared throughout my whole body.Where had this fire come from? Soon the fire spread all down my arm and down my left leg. The blankets were now burned and I got off the bed absolutely frightened. At this point I was sure it was a dream but it wasn't and that's the scary part.

I ran down the hallway screaming and waving my arms until I got into the bathroom and stuck my hand in the toilet.

What? It was the closest thing to me that had water. But the fire didn't extinguish even under water. Was this fire on drugs or something? I'm pretty sure water is supposed to put out a  fire.

I ran down to Megan's room and banged on the door with my non-fire hand. She opened it quickly and gasped.

"It wont go out!" I cried waving my fire arm around. Which I probably shouldn't have done since it made the fire bigger.

"We must call Batman now!" she exclaimed and ran down the hall.

I stood there in the dark hallway with my burning body waiting for some answers.
