Becoming a hero wasn't easy. Infact, I have been close to death more times than any fourteen year old I know. I became a hero when I was twelve. It was scary, but my older brother taught me well and he is the only one i have left, and my greatest fear is losing another person I love.

My brother's name is Monroe, he doesn't have a special hero name or anything, just the simple Monroe. Haven't heard of him? Well,he isn't part of the dandy band of the Justice League. He despises them, though I do not know why. I mean, I've been trying to get him to tell me but he just wont budge. I guess somethings are best to be unanswered.Well anyways, I am kind of forced to tell you this story because Batman told me to, and I don't want to piss him off. Wait. Why does he want me to tell you this? Okay never mind, something tells me not to question the bat. Alrighty, here we go!

It started on a dark night (no pun intended) when my brother and I were out to get ice cream......

"I'll get two chocolates with sprinkles", my brother had told the guy who was serving us.

"Be sure to add gummy bears on the side" I told the guy.
"That'll be three dollars and forty nine cents" the man replied.

We sat at a table by the front door, the tables were shaped as ice cream cones and the chairs were shaped as ice cream sandwiches. I thought it was pretty creative. But that was besides the point. Anyways, We never did end up getting our ice cream because just as we sat down, the building burst into flames.

In a matter of milliseconds everything was engulfed with purplish smoke blocking my vision. I heard Monroe's voice but I couldn't see him. In panic I started to run. Suddenly something hit my leg causing me to topple over onto a fallen chair. I couldn't see what had hit it since my vision was blurring. All I knew at the moment was that I couldn't breathe and that I was a gonner. I collapsed onto the floor with the building crumbling around. My vision went black and I never did see how I got out of the building alive

-----------------------------------------

When I awoke I found that I was strapped to a bed with needles in my arm.

I saw a blur moving slowly across the room coming towards me. When my eyes adjusted I saw who it was. It was the bat.

Sorry, I mean Batman.

"Cara, it's good that you're awake, we have plenty to talk about" Batman said in his dark voice. His voice made a shiver go down my spine. I had always admired Batman despite my brother's opinions but he was right here and it was quite frightening.

I used the arm that wasn't attached to the ivy to haul myself up, instantaneously pain filled through my entire body. I winced as I let myself fall back onto the bed.

"You are aware that you have survived that building and that you are not in good condition".

I had so many questions running through my head, but the one burning question was about my brother.

"Monroe,"I said,"Where is he?"

"Cara, I am sorry to tell you this, but..."
I knew what he was gonna say, he was going to say that my brother is dead and that I am all alone.

"...we didn't find Monroe in the building when we pulled you out" He told me.

"But how? He was right there with me!" I exclaimed, "Does this mean he left me to die in that burning building?!"

As if reading my thoughts, Batman replied, "We can't cut to conclusions too quickly, he may have been kidnapped by the ones who caused the fire"

I narrowed my eyes, "Who caused the fire?"

"We have a clue, but we can't tell exactly, we have a team investigating at the moment, we'll give you any news we find of Monroe".

"Than-thank you" I stuttered.

" I've got to get going, rest while you can you'll need it" He said and left without making a noise.

I was left alone with my miserable thoughts, like what was going to happen next? Where was I going to live? And most importantly, where the hell was Monroe?
