ONE — TOO LATE

THE TOWER WAS quiet, no one dared to make a sound fearing for the reactions from The Avengers or anyone that was close to you. The only noise that was made was the sound of the computers trying to track down Loki.

Steve took another swing from his alcoholic beverage as he sat at the bar alone, angry with his body for not being able to get drunk. Tony silently walks into the bar and stood in front of Steve, Steve looked up at Tony acknowledging his presence then looked back at his drink. Tony then sits next to him with a sad look on his face not knowing what to say, dealing with emotional people being something he was not good at. Everyone tried talking to Steve, they all tried to do something to make the tension from rising any further but it was hard based off how they were going through the same pain Steve was going through.

"It's not your fault," Tony says after a while of just sitting and thinking about what had happened earlier. "You know we don't blame you for her death."

Steve doesn't say anything, instead he just stares at the wall with a blank expression, it scared Tony to death seeing how Steve was acting with just a short amount of time. Steve hadn't been this vulnerable since the incident with Bucky, and of course it was all Loki's fault.

"I should've been there." Steve finally says after a long time. Steve closes his eyes as he remembered the footage they just saw just a while ago.

"Steve, I'll be okay!" You say to him as you strap your weapon belt onto yourself, "Go help Tony with the rotors. Once I'm done I'll help you guys out."

Steve hesitates for a quick moment but finally leaves to where he's stationed. You quickly ran to the interrogation room, where they kept Loki inside that clear box. You heard explosions coming from different areas, you wanted to help them all but Fury ordered you and Thor to make sure Loki didn't escape. Thor should be there by now so you just had to pray Loki wasn't already out by the time Thor made it there.

Once you made it to the room you see Thor inside the box Loki was once in and Loki's hand hovering over the big red button that would soon send Thor 300,000 feet to the ground.

You quickly whipped your gun out and ran to Loki, "Hey!" You say sternly to Loki as he quickly turned his attention to you. "Back away from that button."

"Or what?" Loki says with a smirk then began to laugh. "You would kill me with one of those weapons you assumed would kill a god like me?"

You hesitated for a moment, "Yes." You heard the man laugh to himself then suddenly you feel a sharp pain through your chest. You scream in pain as you see the beginning of Loki's spear appear through you. You hear Thor screaming at Loki to stop with tears in his eyes. Loki simply smiles as he lets you fall back to the floor. Blood poured out of your mouth as your vision started to become foggy.

"You humans are no match for me," Loki says while glaring at you then walks up to the button and presses it making Thor fall. You struggle to breathe as you hear shouting from afar, you turn and see Loki starting to walking away unharmed and mentally slap yourself for being so stupid for taking Loki on alone until someone shot at him. You look up to see Coulson looking at you with wild eyes and kneels in front of you, "Agent [L/N] look at me."

"I-I'm feeling tired," You say still struggling to breathe as you feel your eyes slowly closing but Coulson shook your shoulders forcing you to open your droopy eyes again.

"Hey! No! [Y/N] I said look at me! Don't you dare go!" Coulson says strongly as he began to speak into the comms. "Agent [L/N] needs medics! I repeat [L/N] needs medics NOW!"

"They'll be there in a minute," A feminine voice says as you touch your chest and see blood pouring out making you freak out. You grabbed Coulson's hands and saw that your blood was all over him. You gave him a terrified look as he gave you the same look.

"What's going on over there?" You can hear Tony ask through the comms.

"[Y/N] stay with me!" Coulson screams as Fury runs into the room looking at you, taking the scene of you in.

"What happened?" Fury says trying to sound professional but failed as you can see him slowly panicking.

"Loki..." You say as you point to the area where the box used to be. "T-Thor... fell."

"Rogers, we need you in the interrogation room now!" Fury says into the comms as he grabs your body trying to lift you up but you just scream loudly making both Coulson and Fury flinch.

"Was that [Y/N]?!" Steve screams back making you want to cry, you knew you were going to die, you were absolutely terrified.

"Steve?" You says slowly as your words began to slur. "I-I love you," You say before your vision slowly goes dark as you hear Coulson and Fury screaming at you to stay awake only for your heart beat to stop.

"I should've been there Tony," Steve says as tears pool around his eyes. Steve finally faces Tony as the tears fall down. "I should've been there for her, she was scared and I wasn't there to say goodbye." Steve drops his head as he fully sobs feeling Tony rub his back. "I was too late."
