{Rachel's P.O.V}
My eyes fluttered open to a change of scenery. "Alex?" I called out Into the room. Wait why was I calling for Alex? "Mom, David?" I asked. I sat up and stepped on the cold wood floor. It took a couple steps to notice that my head was throbbing. I didn't recognize this house. This house wasn't mine. That only let me to one assumption; kidnapping. I checked my bra for my phone. It was still there. I made sure to turn it on vibrate. I looked down the halls and saw nobody. What could I do in this situation? Who could have done this? I thought about last night, it made my head hurt worse and I winced in pain. I stumbled backwards and fell onto my bed clutching my forehead.
I observed my surroundings. In front of my was a door, could it be unlocked? I quietly pushed my heavy body off the bed again and toggled at the handle. Undoubtedly locked. I pulled my lip in between my teeth and glanced around again. I had a window, those can't be locked from the outside. I looked at my outside surrounds. One story house, thank God. I looked for any signs of cars or people, but saw none. As I unlatched the locks on the window, I slowly lifted it up just enough for me to climb out of. When my feet touched the grass I ducked down, laying on the grass in case the kidnapper heard anything. When nothing happened, I shut the window once again and made a run for it.
It was getting dark. I was scared. I was worried. I didn't want to die to tonight. I tried to think of things that would keep my mind off of the fact that I had just been kidnapped. My brain was pounding against my head. The only thing I could remember was someone playing in my head, and red eyes. What if it was Alex! No, it couldn't be, I've known him for too long. He would have explained this to me. He was too nice. Too perfect.
The small house was abandoned, and in the middle of nowhere. Far out from the house, you could see a forest, and I was headed straight for it. I tried staying positive. I was thinking about my mom, my dad, David. David. David disappeared when he was about 18. Well, 'moved out'. He had been angry, like he suddenly had gained anger issues. He visited us about a year and a half ago to clear everything up. He told me he was fine.
Wait, no! Today was Thursday. Today was supposed to be my amazing birthday. It was getting darker and darker. By now I was deep into the forest, and I could barely see the moon through the trees. I just ran and ran, not looking back.
Eventually I had to stop. Any longer and I was going to faint. I pulled out my phone to check for signal. None. I put it back in my bra and decided to climb a tree. I needed to know where I was. I wouldn't stop climbing until I reached the thinnest branches. Thank you adrenaline for all the energy.
I waited to look over the trees, I needed to check for a signal again. I barely had one bar, with 5 missed calls from Alex. I called him back, desperately hoping it wasn't him who took me. He answered on the first ring. "Rachel are you alright? Where are you? Where's James? Is his car wherever you are? Did he take a car?" He questioned. "I'm fine, apart from my throbbing head. I'm at the top of this tree I climbed, I was looking for a signal. And why would I know where James is and how am I supposed to know about James' car?" I asked. "You did wake up in a strange place, right?" He asked. "Alex what's going on. You know what I'm just going to look over the trees to see where I am." I said.
"No, don't!" He said. But I had looked up before he could make a sound. The moon was huge and full. That's odd, I've never noticed how beautiful the moon was. "Alex, did you notice how beautiful the moon is?" I asked. I stared into the moon and it engulfed me. "Rachel you get out of that tree right this instant." He said.
"Yes, sir." I said climbing down. "Ouch." I breathed. "What, what's wrong?" Alex asked. "Oh nothing.I'm fine It's probably just my imagination, I think I'm just aching a little from all that physical activity." I laughed. "Rachel! Get down now!" He yelled. "Why such a rush?" I asked.
"Rachel, you're about to experience something that you never thought was possible. And it's going to hurt the first time. Whatever you do, put your phone in your mouth. You won't be able to carry it and you won't be able to talk back to me. But you will still hear me so listen to what I say when it happens." He said.
"Okay?"I said plopping onto the ground. Ouch. My legs were killing me. Then it spread to my back, then all the way through my fingertips. I screamed, Alex seemed patient. "What's happening to me!" Was the last thing I was able to yell. "Rachel, your morphing into -" I heard. What?
What was wrong with my eyes? Everything was black, white and grey. I wanted to run. Run away from whatever was happening to me, but I couldn't. "Rachel? Can you hear me?" I heard a voice. It was really loud. Was somebody yelling? I breathed in my surroundings. All my smells were magnified. So many things were coming in through my nose.
I was so hot. Maybe I should take my extra shirt off. I looked down at my hands. Wait. Either I'm seeing things, or, you know, I have paws! "Rachel?" I heard. I didn't know what to do. The only thing I thought of to respond was to howl or yelp. I tried staying quiet but I howled a little bit. "Listen to me. I don't know how to put this to where you will actually believe me, but you just turned into a wolf." Alex. That was Alex speaking.
Alex Mulling. My best friends since well, forever. My head was screaming 'what do I do now', but nothing came out but howls. Wolf language? "What you need to do if bite your phone. But lightly. Just set it in your mouth so you can hear me and not lose me when you move." He instructed. So he did understand me. I did as he said and put my phone gently in my mouth. "Okay, got it. Now what, idiot?" I thought in my head. I tried my best to put that in howl form. And is sounded exactly right. Instinct?
He howled back at me. Wait, what? "Now run, run as far back into the forest as you can. Block James from your howls and just focus on me." He howled out. What. What? Focus? Block? He is confusing me. I let out a little howl saying," how?" "Focus on my voice. Me. Nobody else." He instructed. "Now howl." I howled with everything and I had in me. Focusing on one thing. Alex.
Alex Mulling. His note. His call. His hug. His kiss. I heard something, apart from my voice. It was Alex. He was coming for me. I stayed exactly where I was. Silent. "Alex. I'm here. Help me. I need you." I called out.
