"Did you think you could just take away my guest?" A big black wolf was no standing in front of Alex and I. Alex growled a deep growl at the other wolf. "Who is that?" I asked him. I made sure the other wolf wouldn't hear me. "That love, is your kidnapper. It's James. Now get behind me." He said. I backed up behind him and tried not to look to afraid. He kept starting at me. What was with his infatuation with me?
"Leave her alone," Alex said through clenched teeth. "Stay out of this Alex. You were supposed to break her. Not protect her. I needed her at her weakest state." He said. What? Break me? "Alex, what is he talking about?" I asked. "Nothing, Rachel I will talk about this later." He said. "Oh, so she doesn't know. Let me tell you. Alex doesn't like you. He was only pretending to like you. Just so he could break your heart, he doesn't love you. That's why I tried to take you away from him." James said.
"Alex?" I said stepping away from him. "Is this true?" I asked. "Rachel, no don't listen to him. He is twisting those words to make it sound the worst way possible." He said. "So it is true." I said. I changed back into a human and walked over to James. "What do you want?" I snapped.
James turned back human followed by Alex. "I want you to come with me. Be mine." He said. "You and your horrible friends were so mean to me! Why on any planet or universe would I want to be yours! Oh, and do your 'best friends' know about this! Do they even know what you are! You see James. I don't want to be with somebody like you." I snapped. "Rachel let me explain." Alex said. "You know what Alex, forget you and all your lies." I said. "Ouch." James commented. "You're not any better!" I yelled.
I turned back into a wolf and ran the direction of the house. I needed to get my purse, but it would be annoying to carry it. I decided on just grabbing my wallet and bolting. So there I was. With a wallet and a phone in my mouth, running with everything I had down an old gravel road. Life couldn't get any better could it?
"Rachel stop. This is not going to end well. I know why he wants you. I only wanted you for the same reason at first. But I've learned that there is still so much more to you than that. Okay? Please. He's right. There is a reason why every one of us was being so mean. You're different, special if you would. You have powers that not many wolves possess. And you can work on them to be even better. But you and the people like you are not safe. Your being tracked by Vampire hunters at all times. Vampires want to harness your power and use it for themselves. If they get all of you in a certain place at a certain time, they could destroy wolves forever. You have to listen to me. Stop running. I will handle James. Please just please believe me," Alex pleaded.
I tried to get his voice out of my head. Werewolves aren't real. Vampires aren't real. Mermaids aren't real. Zombies aren't real. But how could I deny it. I was a wolf right now. I, Rachel Valentine the normal 18-year-old from New York was a wolf. My only option right now really is to trust somebody. And that somebody has to be Alex. I stopped running and turned around to be nose to nose with Alex. I could feel his wet nose against mine and his hot breath on my coat. "Thank you." He said morphing back into a human. I morphed back into a human and walked over to him.
"Alex, what do you expect me to do? I just find out that you don't even like me. Not the slightest bit? I thought I might have loved you once upon a time. I thought I've loved you for years! Ever since I heard your name I thought I loved you! I just thought that what you said, that maybe, just maybe, you did like me. Was I really so stupid to believe that my old best friend loved me? You know I thought you were better than that Alex." I said. "I'm not. I am. I Do. Ugh. Rachel, you don't understand. Yes, it is true. The only reason I went to your house and everything is because James wanted me to. I didn't want to say no to him because I was afraid of what he would do to me. But the guy in that note. That was me. That was the real Alex. The one you know. You have to believe me. I know this is really fast. Like really fast. So much has happened to you. But don't worry. I accidentally fell in love with you those years ago, too. But that's the thing about love. It kind of just happens and you can't control it. I know that you I don't deserve an amazing person like you because of what I did, but I would love a second chance." Alex said.
By this time James was intently watching from a distance. I looked into his eyes and chuckled at how concerned he appeared. As much as I was mad at him. As much as I wanted to run away and just scream, his words got to me. "Well, we accept the love we think we deserve." I said running into his arms.
