It was the morning of the first day of carnivale; one of the events of the year you were most looking forward to.
Having placed an order for your mask and wardrobe months in advanced, you now wondered if what you requested to be done was, too much.
Sitting in your fathers study, you allow yourself to slump over on his desk. He always let you dabble in his accounts and business inquiries, and you were hoping maybe it would serve as a distraction.
Of course, there was no such thing as too much for the carnival. Anyways, even if your attire was over exaggerated, no one would really know it was you under the mask.
Oh, you thought, what silly things I worry about.
You hear footsteps approach the office and you straighten up, expecting your father but then remember he is out doing "important business", and instead find the house maid, Angela, entering the bureau
.
"My dear," she breaks the silence in the room "whatever is the matter?"
You slouch back down, relieved to find it was only the housemaid. You feel a pang or guilt for stressing over such a petty thing as what to wear. Surely there were others in the world who wished they only had to worry about that.
"Nothing at all," you give her a gentle grin as she fiddles with some books that were out of place. "I must go retrieve my mask and gown for this evening, and if you do not mind I would rather like it if you accompanied me."
Agnella's countenance lit up.
"Of course. I would be delighted to accompany you."
So it was settled, Agnella finished returning the old, tattered books to third places, and the two of you set out into the city of Venice to pick up the items for tonight's festivities.
-----
The streets of Venice were as crowded as ever, with almost all of the shoppes displaying an array of decadent masks that were up for sale.
It took almost no time to pick up your items* but you decided to spend more time out. After all, Agnella seemed to be enjoying herself.
People were preparing the square with all kinds of colorful* decorations, from vibrant flags to vivid looking displays. You were resting against the wall of a building when you noticed a man across the courtyard dressed in red and white clothing* starring at you intently*. You could barely make out his eyes for he was wearing a hood, but you could sense his gaze on you and the teasing smirk he had suggested you were correct in your accusation*. You began to make your way ever so tauntingly to the boys location, taking the opportunity to leave Agnella behind as she was destracted by a jester blowing flames from his mouth. You held the box in which your mask was in like a book, and strutted across the crowded courtyard to where the stranger was. Upon getting closer to him, someone rammed into you knocking you and your mask onto the floor. The hooded mans smirk expression*turned to one of shock and hen anger, as he began to sprint to you.
You feel on your hands and you looked up to see the assailant give you a dirty look before running off. You sat on the ground in disarray*, feeling both embarrassed and angered at what had just occurred.
The no longer hooded stranger arrived to where you were and picked you up off the floor. "Figlio di puttana!" He yelled after the man, and would've given him chase but decided that it was better to stay with you. You stood in his arms holding onto him.
"Are you all right?" He looked at you, feeling like quiet the hero having you in his arms. But you hesitated to reply; you felt extremely embarrassed now.
"Yes," you cleared your throat "yes I am better now."
You looked up at the boy; his hood was off and you were able to see his full facial features, which were harsh yet subltey soft. You were fooloshly holding on to him as if your life depended on it, and you could feel some muscle under his clothes. He was gazing into your eyes and you were staring back, trying to figure out what he was thinking, although you were sure it was probably something *
You came back to your senses, and you realized what really had happned, you let your childish actions caused you to be toppled over and drop the mask.
Oh no
You looked at the ground to see your once decadent and elaborate mask in pieces. The stranger followed your gaze, and gave you a reasurrung squeeze. surely you two were now the spectacle of the town square.
"Not to worry," he let you go "we can go search for a new one, I am sure there is plently around."
You now stood in front of him. "That is very kind of you to want to buy me one," you chuckled "after all, it was because of you that I dropped my mask."
You turned around and began to walk before he could protest. He hurried to get next to you, looking a bit flustered from the prolonged embrace.
"Alright, but I will have to see you in it tonight" he offered you his arm an you took it. He was a very amiable young man, but on top of that, he was extremely flirtatious. Nothing you couldnt handle of course.
"Oh, you are going to be at the carnivale tonight?" you refrain yourself from sounding too excited.
"Well, I would not wish to miss another opportunity to see a beauty like yourself again."
You looked away from him so he would not see you blush. It was as if at any chance he got, he wanted to make you red in the cheeks.
"I look forward to seeing you, then." You smiled and followed his lead to a where the merchants wree selling masks. It took you some time to find a mask that fit well and was your style, and when you did you were pleased with your choice. An eggshell white colored mask adorned with gold. You put it on and faced the boy.
"Mhm, yes that is the one, it looks dashing," he taunted "you can make anything look well, love."
"I'll take it," you handed it to the seller and looked through your coin purse for the sufficient ammount, but the boy steps in front and gives the man money. The boy looks at you
"After all, it was my fault." He teased.
----
It was finally night time and after receiving a scolding from Agnella for leaving her behind, you were able to get ready for the night.
You stood in your room in front of your mirror, holding the gown up to your body. It was a nice Crimson color that seemed to match really well with your mask. You hope your new friend would like the duo- you hoped it would perhaps put him in awe.
You stepped into your gown and began to lace it up, but eventually you needed help from Agnella to finish tying it.
You clipped your hair back on both sides loosely.
When you were over all pleased with your appearanced you bid farewell to Agnella, and went off into the night.
Festivities were well underway when you arrived to the square. You were quick to join a dance with those who were already frolicking around. You switched from partner to partner, all the while keeping an eye out for the mysterious stranger of a couple of hours before. You were so preoccupied searching they when you were switched to a new partner, you didn't quite realize who it was
"Looking for me?" You looked at the man in front of you, who was wearing the same clothes as the man earlier, except his face was obscured with a silvery mask. You could thankfully tell it was him, thanks to the scar on his lip.
