"Imagine: Connor teaching you to hunt after many attempts of trying and failing."
--

Snow began to fall in the homesteads forest, quickly covering the ground with a layer of white. Connor had decided that today would be an apt day to go hunting, using your new bow.

The bow was lightweight, crafted by Connor's own hands. Its wood was soft and smooth in your grasp, and it seemed to fit you perfectly. It was definitely much easier to handle than Connor's bow, which was often at times too heavy for you.

As the two of you hiked further into the forest, the snow continued to fall, decorating the trees branches with lumps of snowflakes. You had your longbow at hand, quietly following behind Connor.

"Here should be fine," He stopped, his voice mocking and playful, "You do understand what to do, right?"

You gave him a small nod.
"I've seen you practice plenty of times." You said, perhaps a bit to overconfidently.

It took a while for actual game to come around, so in the mean time the two of you sat around searching for any signs of hare or deer. When a small hare jumped around a few feet away, Connor got up, patting your arm for you to get up as well.

Your eyes quickly focused on the gray hare. Picking an arrow from your quiver, you nocked it into the bowstring. You hesitated a few moments before raising your bow. Connor seemed to have noticed your tension, and shifted where he was standing.

"Go on." His voice was reassuring, and you lifted your bow.

Drawing the arrow back, you tried to steady your shaking arm. Moving the fingers of your bow arm slightly, you released the arrow. It raced across the forest, and lodged itself into a tree by the hare. The poor animal jumped, and ran off.

Connor placed a hand atop your shoulder.
"Maybe you should try again." He moved his head in the direction of a grazing deer, which seemed undisturbed by the incident. With a small grin, you positioned yourself to face the deer. Readying your bow again, you took a deep breath, and a small cloud of steam formed when you exhaled.

Alright, you told yourself. Focus, focus...

You let the string go, and this time the arrow hit the deer right in the thigh. Giving a shrill whine, it scurried off, taking your arrow with it.

"Damnit." You lowered your bow, and a look of disappointment consumed your face.

Connor, seeing your bad luck, stood next to you.

"Here." He said, repositioning your hand on the bow and fixing your stance a bit. "This should help."

When another opportunity came, he decided not to let you try on your own this time. Standing over you, he gripped your bow hand with his, and moved it to have a better aim. Looking over to where both of your hands were entwined, you felt your heart beating quickly in your chest. Not wanting to disappoint him, you pulled back the arrow, but he held the hand you were shooting with as well. He pulled the arrow and string back a bit more, guided your hands, and you shot the bow.

The arrow whizzed by, hitting the raccoon somewhere in the ribs, causing it to topple over on the white ground. Your eyes widened in realization with what had just happened.

"I hit it..."

Well, you thought, it was more of a "we hit it".

That didn't seem to phase you, however, and you began cheering, dropping the bow and reaching up to hug Connor. You wrapped your arms around his neck, and he began to laugh. Letting go, you ran over to the raccoon, kneeling down to see what to do next. The snow was speckled in red. You quickly pulled out the arrow, stowing it back in your quiver. Connor knelt down next to you and grabbed the animal by the tail.

"Let us go." He patted your shoulder, smiling.

You followed behind him, your bow on your back. Your features were lit up with contentment, and it seemed to make Connor happy as well.

"I can't believe I actually hit it!" You exclaimed

"I knew you could do it." Connor let out a chuckle, and the two of you walked back to the manor.
