I parked my blue family jeep in the drive way of a big blue and white house with the biggest back yard ever. As soon as I walked in the door after a day at the office helping my client, my two beautiful 5 year old daughters ran to me and jumped to my chest with their blond curls bobbing up and down. The sound of children giggling filled the room. "Katie and Kayla! Where's Kyle?", I asked looking for my son. "He's in his room doing his homework", Katie and Kayla said at the same time. I guess since they are twins they're more alike then different. I went up the staircase to Kyle's room, the second door to the left and walked in. The wall was painted a dark blue with peel off baseball stickers all over. Kyle had stacks of baseball cards on his dresser and a picture of his baseball team, the Tigers. He laid on his bed with light blue and dark blue covers and a white pillow perfectly set up with his brown gelled head of hair laying on it. Emma and I had found out that Kyle had autism when he was 6 years old. It's been one year. Kyle doesn't have many friends at school. He said he prefers to be alone. That explains why he spends every day in his room studying and only coming out to eat dinner. Kyle must have everything neat or he'll throw a big fit. If you step on his shoe, he might throw it at you. If he gets something other than an A on his report card, he'll throw our glass vase on the floor that we had to replace twice and lock himself in his room. But he still loves baseball more than anything in the whole entire world. That's his only exception to getting a little messy. His team accepts him and he has a bond with them. They are his only friends. "Hey buddy. Need some help?" , I asked. "No. Get out." He said this aggressively, so I backed off. "Ok, but watch your attitude or no dessert this dinner." "No dessert?" He screamed the second time. "No dessert!". Kyle picked up his books and threw them on the floor and yelled. "Stop, Kyle. Remember the sticker chart we made on the refrigerator? You don't want another sad face, do you?". "I want a smiley face", Kyle calmed down. "Ok, then work towards it buddy." I patted him on the back and left his room to go to my bedroom. As I walked in, I saw Emma sitting on our bed, reading something. It was a stack of letters. I walked over to her quietly and smiled . "Do you like them?",I asked. She jumped and place her hand on her heart. "Hi. You scared me", she smiled making me uncontrollably have butterflies in my stomach. I laughed and kissed her with her lips soft and sweet. "I love them. They're the most romantic letters in the whole world. They talk about our first date and wedding." She was talking about my present I made her for our 8th year anniversary. I started writing letters about Emma in high school. I tied them together and titled it "Dear Emma". They were wrapped in silver and red wrapping paper with a bow on top. There was a card that said "Happy Anniverary! I have much to say about our love, but I think you should just read about it in these letters." I made her exactly 51 of them. As Emma looked back at her present, she close her eyes and cried. I sat down next to her on the bed and put my hand on her shoulder. "What's wrong?" She wiped her eyes and looked at me with her nose red and eyes stuffy. "In these letters you said how you felt about me whenever you saw me. You said that you got butterflies....and....and your heart would stop...and that you couldn't stay away." I looked at my wife, eagerly listening. "It's just that we have got so much older, both 32 and your talking about how much you loved me in high school. I wonder, do you still feel that way about me?" , Emma asked. I was suprised. "Emma, I've felt this way about you since I was 8 years old, even before then. Kids aren't even supposed to feel real love at that age, but with you, I can't ever say it wasn't love. I will never leave you and I will never leave our kids. When I walked in this room and saw you, I couldn't believe that someone as beautiful as Emma Marie Evans was my wife and the mother of my kids. You still make me nervous. You still give me chills. And you still make me feel like I'm 17 again." You smiled looking at me with your shining eyes.. "Lets go out tonight", you said. "But I have work tomorrow and what about the kids?" "I'll call a babysitter." You pushed my back to the bed and kissed me making me burst inside. I placed my hands on your face. During kisses I asked ,"Lets not go somewhere fancy. Lets use the back of our truck and have a picnic under the stars. A repeat of our first ever date." "Yes. Lets do that", you said.
