Jessie's POV

I felt so bad for Danny when he was getting his shoulder re-located; he was in so much pain! I had to pin him down, and even Callie had to help hold him still. I noticed that he and Callie were talking afterwards, and that he touched her and she didn't freak out. Can't say I blame her, though, for originally freaking out on him.

Danny watches the door for a second, as if he's worried that his sister will come bursting back in. He turns to me and asks, "Hey Jess? Could I ask you a question?"

"Sure, shoot," I tell him. For a split second he looks panicked, almost nervous, but he goes back to being relaxed so fast I think I imagined it.

"Well, there's this girl..." he says, turning away from me to pace around my flat. "...and I really like her, and I wanna ask her out, but I don't know quite how."

I'm surprised he's coming to me about girl problems; I always figured he was a ladies man. "Well, what's she like?" I know it's not the most helpful thing but hey, I'm curious.

"Well, she's smart, and funny, and nice, and---"

"Pretty?"

"Beautiful! She's got these eyes, and her hair---wow!"

"Danny, are you really referencing Aladdin right now to describe her?"

He turns and gives me a half-smile. God, it's perfect. "Perhaps," he says.

"Do I know this lucky lady?" I ask him.

"Better than you'd think," he answers.

I decide not to pry and ask him who it is, and instead say, "Danny, you should just tell her! I'm sure she'd be glad to go out with you if you tell her what you just told me." When he looks skeptical, I encourage, "Just tell her!"

He sighs and closes his eyes. "I just did," he whispers, barely audible.

Oh my God.

Did he really just say that?

That he likes me and wants to ask me out?

Oh yeah he did!

"Danny, I..." I fumble for words. "...I feel the same way..."

His eyes light up and he beams. I don't think I've ever seen him look happier. I walk over to him and hug him tightly, grinning ear-to-ear. After a minute, he pushes me away and kisses me gently, his hand that's not in a sling resting on my waist. I wrap my hands around the back of his neck just as the door bursts open. We're startled apart and turn to see Mandy back with a regular sling. She's staring at us, wide-eyed and slightly slack-jawed. I glance at Danny through the corners of my eyes and see he's bright red in the face.

"Daniel John Mark Luke O'Donoghue, explain yourself!" she cries, making him flinch.

"Mandy, it's not what you think---" he starts.

"Not what I think? I think you're seeing her! Why else would I come back and find you two snogging each other's faces off? And why else would you be staying here?" Mandy snaps. I notice his shoulders have slumped as he leans back against the couch and his head is lowered.

"We weren't snogging!" he protests. It's true; we weren't snogging, just kissing.

"Oh, come on, Danny, I've walked in on you snogging enough times! Don't give me that 'we were just kissing' bullshit!"

"But Mandy, we were only just kissing! He just told me---er---how he feels just before you came in," I state simply.

"Oh...oh, Danny! I thought you didn't want me to know you were seeing someone earlier and that's why you hung up..."

"No, it was because I wasn't really...sure...then," he says quietly.

"So are you going to start seeing her, then?"

"Well, I'd like to..." He smiles and winks at me and it's my turn to blush.

Mandy grins at him and says, "Well, if you do, you've got my blessing and my word I won't tell anyone. Now, let's fix your arm up, yeah?" We both stammer thanks which she quickly shrugs off as she carefully pulls the makeshift sling off Danny's arm. She places his arm in the proper sling and says, "Turns out I had some lying in my car; that's why I came back so early and ended up interrupting you two lovebirds."

"You know, just because I only have one properly functioning arm, it doesn't mean that I won't kill you," Danny says, some color in his cheeks. She pinches his cheek affectionately and replies, "Oh, lighten up, Danny boy. I'm only kiddin'." She looks down at her watch and cries, "Oh, shit! I have to get back to work!"

"Give them my number if they're giving you a hard time," Danny states simply. Mandy nods briskly as she hurries out of the flat. "So...do you want to go out and do something tonight?" he asks me.

"Very specific," I observe drily, "but yes, something would be nice."

"Should I leave you to get ready, then? I could pick you up around 6:30?"

"Well, what are we doing?"

"I'll think of something. It'll be a surprise!"

"Alright, then. What will we do with Callie?"

"I could bring her back to mine. I don't need as much time to get ready so she could come with me. She won't be in your hair that way."

"Fair enough. I'll go talk to her." I get up and walk into the guest room where Callie had been staying. I find her laying on the bed reading a book.

"Thought I'd give you guys some privacy," she tells me as I enter the room. "If you were wondering how I knew you were here, I could hear you. Learned to listen for anyone coming towards us so we could wake everyone up in hopes of stopping beatings...on a better note, what's going on?"

"Well...Danny and I are going out..." I begin.

"Like on a date?" she questions, her head immediately popping up from the book.

"Yeah. Tonight." I can see a smile tugging the corners of her mouth upward. "And Danny's offered to bring you back to his place---"

"So I won't be in your way when you're getting ready?" she interrupts. I'm about to say that that wasn't the reason, but she continues, "It's okay to be blunt with me, Jessie. Words will never hurt as much as the beatings I've been through."

"How can you speak of them so easily?" I ask her, slightly awed.

"It's easier knowing I won't be going back there and won't have to be dealing with them ever again." She sits up and walks over to me before saying slyly, "Now, I do believe you have a date to be getting ready for?"

I feel myself blush at her words. I take her hand and lead her out into the living room, where Danny is sitting on the couch, staring blankly into space. I put a finger to my lips and sneak up behind him. I manage to slip my hands down behind him and turn to give Callie a questioning look. She gives me a thumbs up and I squeeze his sides suddenly. He jumps violently and swears, "Oh, Jesus! For fuck's sake, Jess, don't sneak up on me like that! Nearly gave me a bloody heart attack!"

I laugh and retort, "Well, don't zone out, then!"

Danny shakes his head, laughing. He notices Callie and asks, "Will you be coming with me to my flat?"

"If it's fine with you," she answers.

"Of course it is!" Danny walks over to me and kisses me softly before whispering in my ear, "Until tonight, gorgeous." I smile as he takes Callie's hand carefully before leaving the flat.
