Danny's POV

So far so good in the ways of Callie's initiation. But the worst has yet to come, unfortunately... About half an hour passes with no screams coming from the basement, which can only mean they still are on the second part or are taking a break between the second and third part. On the upside, though, everyone loves Jess---if I'm completely honest it's way too hard not to!---and she fits in like a pea in a pod with the rest of us. As Jessie and I are having a good-natured debate about The Voice, a loud shriek of laughter explodes from the basement, making us all jump. "Well...the final part's begun," Ian observes, nodding.

"It certainly sounds that way," I reply, turning to look towards the open door. "Perhaps we should give them some privacy to...well, whatever they're doing." Andrea closes the basement door with a bang.

"Oh, come on, you know what they're doing! You had to tell at least one of them about something that drives her completely insane so they can use it against her. Spill the beans, what is it?" Vicky asks, shoving me playfully.

I shove her back and retort, "Yeah, well, God knows she's going to kill me just because the kids know. She'd kill me like four times if the adults knew too. So yeah, going to pass on that."

After ten more minutes of begging, demanding, and threatening (isn't my family great?), Dara yells, "Oi, Dan, let's settle this like men!" He pauses dramatically. "With a wrestling match!"

"Whoever's pinned down for ten seconds first loses?"

"Yup, same rules from when we were kids. But now, it's high-stakes wrestling. If you win, we stop bothering you. If I win, you tell us. Fair deal?"

"Fair enough, yeah."

"Ready to lose, then?"

"I was about to ask you the same thing."

"Then let's have at it!" Everyone in the room clears to one side, and as soon as they are out of harms way, Dara launches himself at me. He drags me off the couch and throws me onto the floor, where we start grappling for control. It's a pretty even match; even though I'm a lot taller than Dara, he's a lot broader than I am, and we have basically the same amount of strength. After several long, hard minutes---during which I am almost pinned down twice!---I manage to pin him down, straddling his hips and pinning his hands next to his head.

"Damn, when did you get good?" Dara asks after I'm declared the winner.

Before I can answer, the basement door slams open and the children spill out. They all head into the kitchen except David and Callie. "She's good, Uncle Dan. She's real good."

"So she passed?"

"With flying colors, if I might add! And now, I'm off to the kitchen." Everyone cheers and laughs and claps Callie on the back. I get up to hug her but she pushes me off, giving me the evils.

"Why'd you tell them I was ti---" She cuts herself off before giving it away to the adults, glaring at me and shaking her head.

"I had to, Callie. I'm sorry."

She glares at me for a second before punching me powerfully on the arm. "That's for telling them," she mutters to me. Then, after a minute, she begrudgingly hugs me. "And this is for making me part of this family," she whispers in my ear. After a few seconds she releases me and heads into the kitchen with the rest of the kids.

"She's going to kill you, Danny," Jessie comments.

"Oh yeah, I know," I reply, turning to look at her. Everyone laughs, and I take the time to slip over to Jessie and murmur, "But that's okay as long as you're with me for my last hours." She laughs, blushing slightly, and kisses me softly. For a few seconds, all is bliss, until---

"PDA! PDA!" my siblings screech loudly, causing us to break apart. Ian and Dara grab my arms and pull me backwards and my sisters all sit between me and Jessie. Jessie gives me a what-the-fuck-just-happened look and I mouth I'm sorry at her. She flashes me a grin---I guess to tell me it's okay. We continue to chat, and every now and then one of my sisters gets up to let me move closer to Jessie. By the time the kids return from the kitchen (about half an hour later), Jessie is sitting on my lap. David announces, "We're going to hit the hay, so good night to you all."

All the children walk over to their respective parents to bid them good night. Callie comes over to us and hugs and kisses us each good night before stumbling off downstairs. "It's about time they got to bed," Andrea comments as the basement door closes. "It's just shy of midnight now. I think I'm going to hit the sack myself. Night, all."

I notice Jessie yawning after a few minutes and say, "Well, been nice chatting with you, but I'm off to bed. Coming, Jess?"

She nods and we get up to leave. My mum asks, "Daniel, could you and I have a word in the kitchen?"

"Um, sure. Jess, you can go on up. I'll be right there." She nods and wanders upstairs. I follow mum into the kitchen. "So what is it, mum?"

"Well, I understand that you and Jessie are sharing a bedroom, and probably a bed, and that's all fine and dandy," she tells me. I nod, waiting for her to continue. "But no---how should I put this delicately...?---no love-making under my roof."

I feel myself go beet red. "N-no, of course not," I stammer, looking down at the floor.

"Look me in the eyes when you're speaking to me, Daniel!"

I force myself to make eye contact. "Sorry. Jessie and I won't...you know..."

"Good," she says, smiling. "Good night, dear."

"Good night, mum," I murmur, kissing her cheek. I head upstairs quickly, before anyone can ask any questions about why I'm blushing. I slip into my old room and find Jessie sitting on the edge of the bed. I strip into my boxers and we climb into bed. She snuggles into me and I curl up around her. "Good night, Jess. I love you," I whisper into her ear.

"Good night, Dan. I love you too," she mumbles into my chest. I kiss the top of her head and fall asleep soon after.
