Jessie's POV
I've spent the past three hours getting ready. I've dressed semi-casually, not knowing what Danny has in store. Danny...what a beautiful man! GAH I'm so excited! The door bell rings. It must be him! Keep it cool, Jessie, keep it cool! I walk over to the door and open it to find Danny in a very tight-fitting shirt. I like it. A lot.
"Hey, Jessie!" he says, smiling. "You look great!"
"Hey, Danny! You don't look too bad yourself!" I tease, winking at him. He laughs his adorable laugh and I take the chance to ask, "Any chance you'll tell me where we're going?"
"Nope!" He grins. "Ready to go?"
"Sure am!" I join him on the steps outside my door and lock the door behind me. He holds open the door to a cab for me and I smile at him. Such a gent! He goes and gets in the other side and gives the taxi driver an address. We set off towards our destination. "So can you tell me now where we're going?"
"No, but you could guess," he tells me cheekily.
I shove him playfully and whine, "Can't you just tell me? Please...!" He shakes his head, grinning broadly. "Stubborn Irish man..." I grumble just loud enough for him to hear.
"What's that?" he asks, raising his eyebrows in surprise.
"You heard me!"
"Damn straight I'm a stubborn Irish man!" We both laugh and chat for the rest of the ride. He's so easy to have a conversation with, no matter how weird the topic gets. Once we arrive at our destination, Danny pays the fare and we thank the driver as we get out of his cab. We're standing in front of one of my favorite restaurants, a small place that not many people know about. "Danny, how'd you know this was my favorite?" I ask him, shocked.
"I've got my sources," he says slyly. I wonder which one of my friends he heckled.
"I'm sure you do," I tell him, nodding seriously. He chuckles and leads me inside. He has a brief conversation with the manager, whom leads us into the dining area and seats us in a corner of the restaurant. "What'd you ask the manager?"
"Just to give us a table away from windows so we could have dinner in peace," he says, shrugging like it was no big deal. It was a big deal, though: it gave us the chance to just have dinner together like two normal people instead of famed celebrities. It was nice. We place our orders when the waiter comes over. We talk about anything and everything that comes to mind and continue to do so as we eat our dinners. I notice after dinner he checks the time, as if he has somewhere to be at a certain time. "Why don't you just wear a watch instead of checking your phone?" I ask him.
"So I don't have to be on time," he tells me. I laugh, assuming he's joking. He grins at me and says, "I'm serious. That's why I don't wear watches!"
"Any other odd habits, then?" I ask, still laughing.
"Taking beautiful women on brilliant dates," he says seriously. I can tell it's hard for him to keep a straight face. I roll my eyes at him and he laughs. We order dessert to split, chocolate cheesecake. Afterwards, Danny pays the check---he doesn't even let me see the cost---and refuses to take any money from me, no matter how many times I offer. We get up and leave the restaurant. Once outside, I realize how cold it is and that I forgot a coat, so Danny gives me his, despite my protests. He takes me on a walk through the park near the London Eye. We sit down in front of a large oak tree and lean back against it. Danny wraps an arm around my shoulders and I can't help myself from smiling. We have a conversation about many things, including the stars in the sky and our music, for a while, until he suddenly gets up and says, "C'mon, it's almost time for the best part!" He grabs my hand and leads me over to the London Eye.
"Dan, what's going on? What are we doing?" I ask him, confused.
"You'll see when we get there, Jess!" he tells me. It's clear he's excited for whatever the best part is. His excitement is infectious, and soon I'm the one pulling him along, even though I don't know where we're going. He eventually stops me at the base of the London Eye and asks quietly, "Ever been on at night?"
"No," I tell him. To be honest, it made me a little nervous, going on at night, and I'd only gone on during the day. "Are we going to?"
"Yup." He must see that I'm worried, because he says quietly, "It'll be alright, Jess, but I get it if you don't want to go on..." Oh my God, I love it when he calls me Jess. I take his hand and squeeze it. "No, I'll be fine, I was just wondering," I assure him. He smiles and squeezes my hand back. After a few minutes of waiting in line, we're called to get in a pod. I assume more people are going to be joining, but Danny shows the man operating the Eye something and the man nods understandingly. He gets in after me and the pod is closed after us. After a few minutes, the Eye is set in motion. We are stopped a few times as pods behind us are filled. Then we continue moving until we are stopped at the top. The view of London is astounding, to say in the least.
I jump violently when there is a loud crack and for a second I think our pod got a crack in it when I see the fireworks lighting up the sky over the Thames. I break into a huge smile and turn to look at Danny. "Did you plan this?"
"Depends on what you mean by this," he replies, turning to look at me.
"The fireworks, stopping at the top..."
"Fireworks, no. Stopping at the top...more or less yeah, I planned that."
"How long are we going to stay up here?"
"Until the fireworks are over."
I gasp. "Dan, that must have cost a fortune!"
He smiles at me and murmurs, "Nothing's too good for you, Jess." I walk over to him and kiss him on the cheek, which I feel grow hot beneath my lips. He hugs me and we stay in each other's embrace until the fireworks are over, which lasts about half an hour. On the way down, we untangle ourselves from each other, having sat down and cuddled during the show. After a few minutes, we leave the London Eye hand-in-hand.
We decide to walk back to my place even though taking a cab would be a lot quicker. After about half an hour, we reach my flat. We climb the steps to my door and I turn to face Danny. "I had a great time tonight," I tell him.
He smiles. "Me too." He pauses for a second before asking, "Perhaps you'd like to do it again sometime?"
"I'd love to!"
"Then maybe tomorrow, my place? We could watch some movies or whatever."
"Yeah, that'd be great!"
"See you then."
"Yeah. Wait, what time?"
"Any time after noon? I'm not doing anything tomorrow so just...come on by whenever."
"Great. See you tomorrow, then."
He doesn't say anything, but leans in and gently kisses me for a second or two. I kiss him back, of course. He pulls away, looking a bit embarrassed, and mumbles, "Sorry. I should have asked."
I pull him closer to me and kiss him again. After a split second, he kisses me back. I must have caught him by surprise. After we pull away, I whisper in his ear, "You don't have to ask, Dan." I feel him shiver slightly against me. I pull away, knowing he has to get home. "See you tomorrow, Danny."
He nods and says, "Until tomorrow, then." He waits until I'm safely inside my flat before turning and leaving. I watch out the window as he catches a cab. I want to make sure he at least gets a cab so he's not walking home alone at night. That's generally bad. I change into my pj's and climb into bed. I can't stop thinking about him. After a while, I manage to fall asleep, Danny still on my mind.
----------------------------
So I decided to post this at midnight because...I didn't want to wait until tomorrow. Yay they finally go out on a date! :) (Guys how cool would it be if you could watch fireworks from a Ferris wheel?)
