A little light in dark times

"Better than last time! Again!" Thorald would shout at me. He would lunge at me with a large battleaxe, waiting for me to slip up. I swung my sword over my head and quickly changed the swing's direction, the flat of the blade struck against his chestplate. "Good, that's enough for today. I didn't hurt you did I?" I shook my head before heading back to the barracks to put everything away.

Construction had been going well, we had a sudden flow of mages and mercenaries come to Maekalythia as the war outside waged on for the past month or two. From what I heard, Mane and his cronies, had stolen the name Wyngeria and made a copy in hopes of becoming superior. Cowardly move in my opinion. "Is something troubling you?" Thorald asked. "Sort of, but it's nothing." Thorald was silent for a split second, "That's a lie." I felt my face grow hot as I took a bit before answering, "I was thinking about where my mother may be. That is, if she's alive." He looked at the ground "I wouldn't know, I'm sorry."

Lance soon came over, looking more upset than usual. "Azura, may I speak with you? In private?" Thorarld spent the whole time glaring at Lance but softened once he heard the tone in his voice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I followed him to the large building where we came for gatherings and he pulled me into a small cupboard. "Okay, you're going to be upset but...I went through the rabbit's stuff." He put his hand over my mouth before I could say anything. "He lied to you for some reason, he knows where your family is. He's most likely trying to keep you from them." I pushed his hand away "So what? Am I supposed to play along with him?"

He shook his head, "Go find them." he said sharply "I...I don't think it's right for you to be here, you're not a fighter Reflet, you're more of an ambassador than a killer." He waited for me to say something and then kept going "Your want to not take a life without reason can get you killed. Besides, the battlefield shows no mercy to those who hesitate." He stopped again. "Lance...I don't want to kill because I don't want any regrets. If I die knowing that I saved a few people, then I will die a happy man."

Lance started shaking, "Do you- do you ever feel like you're without those who love you? Have you ever felt so much pain that you've wanted to end it all?" I grew wary at his sudden choice of words. "Lance, whatever you're thinking, stop." He sat there for a minute shaking and pulled out a knife, and threw it aside. "Th-thank you." He said before pressing my dragonstone to my palm and leaving in a hurry.

I stared at the knife, You bastard, is this why you've been harsh? I thought, Are you really in more pain than I thought? I then turned and ran to the door.

As I ran outside, I ran face to chest of Thorald, who started to speak before I shut him up. "How long have you known? How long did you intend to not tell me?" I growled at him, "This would've been much easier without the damned wolf here." he said under his breath. I pushed past him and opened my palm, a note was there saying to head southwest until I pass over the mountains. "Reflet! Wait!" Thorald cried as I sprouted my wings and took to the sky.

Molarus

Lance came storming into the home as I had finished setting up decorations. He looked as if he's been crying for a short time. "Father? Is everything okay?" I asked as he walked upstairs. "Everything's going to be fine" he said as he shut the door to his room. I shook the idea out of my head as Thorald walked in, "Hello Thorald, what can I do for you?" I asked in a pleasant tone.

He stared at me with cold eyes, "Where is Lance?" A large Thud answered the question for us. I ran upstairs to find Lance keeled over while having random spasms. "By the gods! Get Reflet and a healer!" I shouted to Thorald as he stared at Lance's twitching.

Reflet

I didn't want to look back. Not this time at least, I couldn't believe it. Lance had exiled me and my half bodyguard had kept information from me, information that I needed to know. I slowed down a bit to look at the bag I always had with me. My sword, a few provisions and Faylinn's dragon shifter armor. I shut the bag as I forced myself to go faster, Southwest they said, just over the mountains.
