A/N I've decided to make this a chapter on a bit of relationship growth. This is because the story is focused on action more than anything else. (That and a lack of ideas for a long while.)
I'm never making portals again. That's all. They're the worst to walk through when you're the creator. I stepped into the main area and took off my helmet. "Faylinn, go pack your things, if they know where we are then we'll be fighting for our lives everyday." She took a few seconds to process this. "But what about Mr Janggo?" I looked over to her from the staircase leading to our rooms."They'll find him, chances are they won't hurt him."
Nightfall
I set the pack on my back with only my fire tome and broadsword on my waist. Faylinn still had the rapier she picked up, her own bag, and was holding her stuffed rabbit. I led her out the door and grabbed the torch off the front of the building. I gestured for her to follow me and she whispered "Where will we go?" I started leading her toward the city gate not answering her question. I looked at the brand on my hand which had turned the flesh surrounding it a royal purple color, there were patterns on my arms from where the scales shot out from my flesh and I confirmed that my right eye would stay red where my other one would always change.
As I led her out the gates I looked around and doused the torch. I could tell that Faylinn knew I was upset, every time I looked at her she would act like she wasn't looking back, I took a sigh and said in a sulkier voice than normal "We should go somewhere smaller, I'll make sure it has a school for you and a job for me. I can't promise safety but I can promise a way foryou to protect yourself." She looked up at me as we entered the treeline "No more tomes, not yet. I didn't like using them like before."
"What about that sword of yours?
She looked at her sword uneasily, it was a bit long for her but it was light and accurate. "As long as you don't train me." Inodded slowly trying not to be offended "Fair enough, I suppose you deserve training from someone who knows a thing ortwo." I turned my head, the town we left had disappeared in the trees and hills. "Where are you from Scales?" I stopped dead, I never told her? "To be honest, I don't know, I was kidnapped as a kid and hidden in Drachen for about ten years." I took a breath. "I hated it there, I was entertainment, doubling as a gladiator and a torture victim. All I would wish for was to see the war veterans, they always told the best stories." Another pause "I guess I never had a life of my own before I met you, now I have a family to take care of and I'm happy."
We kept walking for a few hours exchanging questions back and forth, until we both decided to make camp. I sat us under a large tree, I cut out a large log and watched her hack away at it with her sword while I started the fire. I heard her fall over and the sword fell at my feet. I picked it up and looked at the log, it was barely scratched. "Fay, show me how you'd try and quickly take out an enemy." She took the sword from my hand and held it with both hand as she rose it over her head.
I took the sword from her hand, "This type of sword is made to be light and quick, dealing small amounts of damage at high speeds." I held it pointed at the log in front of my opposite shoulder. "If you try to swing the way you did, it would be blocked easily leaving you open for attack." I dashed forward thrusting the blade at the log at high speeds then jumped back. Faylinn took the sword and held it with one hand above her head with a strange grip. She ran forward and performed a backhandedswing, making a large scratch in the log. "I see, you use a backhanded technique to gain more power in your swing."
She smiled and laughed as she managed to lob a large piece of the top off. "Better! But remember to not lose your focus, confidence is a good thing to have, but too much of it will make you reckless."
She put away her sword and sat down at the fire next to me. "Have you seen Chambray?" she asked looking around. "Who?" I asked, "Chambray! My stuffed jackrabbit!" I pulled said rabbit out of my bag. "I uh, kept him away from the fire and swords Iswear." She snatched it from me and held it tight as she scooted closer to me. "Maybe soon I can help you fight, you'd be safer right?" I thought about when I turned into a beast. "No, I don't want that future for you, I could hurt you or you could be killed." She shook her head "I don't care, no one will hurt you if you turn into a beast again, not while I'm here."
She set her head on my lap and shut her eyes while holding her stuffed rabbit close. I just stared at her, how would she enjoy being family with a beast shifter? I could kill her if I transform out of rage or something. I looked at a map I brought with me,Wyngeria is most likely out of bounds, I could get killed there. I have no intention to visit Jardia or Maekalythia, one is violent and the other is near dead. I shut the map, laid down and closed my eyes. I would consider my options in the morning.
As long as it's somewhere Faylinn can be happy, I'm happy.
