My mind wouldn't wrap around it. Justin cared. He came from another state, miles away, for me.
So many thoughts were taking over me. But one question stood out the most. Did he meet Evan. Did he even know about him?
I was distracted from my thoughts by the old door creeping open. Soon showing and old familiar face.
A face that held worry, fear, sadness. He looked different than before. Small wrinkles were forming at the corner of his eyes. Slight laugh lines were showing. Justin looked more built than before. Most likely from the touring and performing, along with working out.
I remember every morning, he would get up and 6:30 AM to go to the Gym. Then get back at 9:30. It was a routine. He had this thing with being healthy and eating the right things.
The complete opposite of me. Eating pizza everyday and sleeping.
"Hi" he said.
Justin was standing awkwardly by the door, shuffling from foot to foot. In his arms, was my angel, fast asleep.
"Hey" I said, a sad smile forming on my lips. Justin noticed me looking at Evan and held him out slightly, careful not to drop him.
"Do you wanna hold him?"
Justin changed. There was no doubt. Maybe it was my fault. I wouldn't blame it.
I nodded my head quickly and help my arms out slowly. Since I woke up, I felt sore from my waist up. Below that I felt nothing.
I guess everything is okay down there?
Justin carefully handed me Evan, as I grabbed him, our hands touched.
And as cliche and shitty as that sounds I swear, I felt something.
Seeing him in person, made me realize how much I really missed him. I missed the slight rasp in his voice. The way his eyebrows raise and fall with each word he speaks. I missed everything.
I looked away from his face and down to Evan's. His eyes were shut tight together. His hand curling and uncurling. It's truly amazing, Evan would never sleep for anyone. Every single babysitter I had hired, always had troubles with him and his sleep.
"Was he good" I asked, not looking away from Evan.
Justin pulled a chair up to the bed, to where he could talk to me, but he wasn't too close. "Yeah, he was an angel."
I looked up at Justin with a surprised look on my face. "He was good for you?"
Evan was always one to scream and cry, squirm. Anything but calm. Every time I needed someone to watch him, I never had the same person do it. No one was up to it.
"Yeah" Justin said, his eyebrows scrunched together "As soon as I got him he fall fast asleep, a smile on his face. You did good with him."
I smiled down at Evan and a thought washed upon me. Did Justin know that Evan was his? Did he care?
I looked back a t Justin and saw him already staring at me, a look of pain on his face.
"Why did you do it?"
I took my lip in between my teeth and shrugged my shoulder's. "Did what?"
"You know what Angie."
I opened my mouth and tried to deny anything he was saying. My mind drew a blank. I didn't know how to respond. I couldn't think of anything. My only response was to play dumb.
"Justin, I really don't know what you're talking about."
"The baby, cheating, trying to come back. The car crash. All of it."
He looked down at his hands, then up to me and Evan, and back down at his hands again.
I could tell he was hurt. I don't blame him. After everything I did to him, I understand it. I cheated, I lied, I did everything you aren't supposed to do in a relationship. Then I tried to deny it and come back.
I don't know why I did any of it. I guess I could blame it on the hormones. A pregnant lady can do some crazy things.
But deep down, I know the answer. I just couldn't tell him. It's too late for that.
