With Shep safely hidden beneath the bushes and Sang and Luke keeping a lookout, all was quiet for now. Luke switched of the sirens and they played the waiting game. Luke took out an earpiece from his pocket and put it in his ear.
"Okay, they are about to discover the missing dog," Luke said.
"When did you...?" Started Sang.
"When I went in to get the dog, placed a listening bug under the examination table."
Sang was seriously impressed. She knew that the Academy boys were superb in espionage but for Luke to think of everything...Sang marveled at the way even at tense and potentially dangerous moments, they were able to think on their feet and focus on minute details.
"Yep, they are mad as hell. I can just imagine the fire spitting from Fischer's mouth."
"Okay, they are going to search the house. Fischer is sending out people to search outside."
Luke crouched next to Sang and took out his phone. "They won't be long now, Sang. We need to hang on for a little while longer."
Sang peeked out from behind the bush, she could hear some shouts but they were well hidden and far enough away from the house that they were safe for a while.
"What if they find us, Luke?" Sang asked, with fear coloring her voice.
Luke took Sang's shoulders and looked into her eyes, "you know how I told you if anything happens you have to run to the car and drive away? That's exactly what you're going to do."
Sang shook her head, "no, I can't leave you and Shep here."
"I have to keep you safe," Luke stroked Sang's face.
Shep was still out cold. Whatever tranquilizer they used was working very well. Sang was worried for Shep but at the same time she didn't want him waking up too soon and alerting the bad guys to where they were hiding.
Sang and Luke waited. Luke kept glancing at his phone. Once in a while, they would hear footsteps or voices nearby but luckily no one came to investigate too close to them. Whatever Fischer was telling his men; he was also telling them to be quiet and not to draw too much attention to what they were doing in that house. Sang and Luke had no idea how close they were to being discovered. It was a huge risk they were taking by hiding in plain sight and hoping that reinforcements came soon.
Luke muttered, "Finally," and Sang heard cars and real sirens heading their way. She chanced a quick glance out from where she was hiding and saw cars careening towards the house.
"Is it them? Is it Mr. Blackbourne?" Sang asked.
"Yes, and the police."
Sang watched the cars stop and several police officers raced out and into the house. She saw another car stop not far from where they were hiding and Mr. Blackbourne and Kota got out. They looked around, probably looking for Sang and Luke.
Luke stood up and told Sang, "Wait here for a minute." He walked over to where Mr. Blackbourne was standing. Luke spoke to them and pointed over to the bush where Sang and Shep were still waiting. Sang breathed a sigh of relief. They were safe, the Academy had arrived and now they were safe. It was all over. As she was just about to stand up as well, a hand shot through and gripped her over her mouth shutting of her shriek.
Sang looked around in alarm and a voice said, "Don't move. You make a sound and I am going to put a fucking bullet in your brain." The barrel of a gun was pressed to her head. Sang shivered in fright and tried to turn around to see who it was.
