For the most part, Sang and her captor drove in silence. She was still too much in shock to say anything and he drove nervously, glancing back every now and then. After what seemed like hours, the silence became too much, too awkward. Sang cleared her throat a few times, picking up the courage to say something but he beat her to it.
"Since we are stuck together, might as well ask your name," he grumbled.
Sang looked up but didn't say anything. The silence stretched on. Finally, in a voice scarcely louder than a whisper she said, "Sang."
The man beside her snorted in disbelief, "if you wanted to give me a false name, should've at least made it somewhat believable.
Sang frowned at this, "no, my name is really Sang."
"Well, okay Sang. My name is Dr. Reed."
It became quiet again. Sang looked thoughtfully out the window, wondering how to retrieve her phone out of her bra without alerting Dr. Reed. She was surprised the boys hadn't tried to contact her yet. She wondered what was going on back at the crime scene. Surely they must have noticed the car bring driven off. She hoped Shep was okay.
"Look, I know this is awkward for you, Sang. I know I have...kidnapped you." Dr. Reed seemed equally as awkward and nervous about the situation. Something about his demeanor told Sang that all that bravado back there was just desperation talking. Now Dr. Reed looked smaller, unsure of himself. It helped to ease Sang's panic slightly. It set them on more equal footing despite the fact that he still had a gun on him. Sang watched Dr. Reed out of the corner of her eyes. She still hadn't volunteered anything in the forced conversation that Dr. Reed had started.
"What y...you and y...your friends did there, calling the cops like that. I had to escape. I don't want to go to jail." Dr. Reed continued with his one sided conversation. He licked his lips and continued, "Mr. Fischer, It's his operation, see. I never wanted any part in it." Dr. Reed paused and gulped several times. It only crashed down on him then; the magnitude of what happened and where he was currently. He turned and looked at Sang with desperation in his eyes. He looked like a wild animal, his eyes held a horrified expression. He started pleading with Sang, "look, I'm...I'm sorry. It was never meant to happen like this. But I had to take you. They were going to put me in jail. I just graduated from vet school. I needed money. Mr. Fischer offered me a lot of money. I have a habit...of betting at horse races."
Sang was unsure whether Dr. Reed was actually talking to her or to himself. He looked and sounded like he was going out of his head. He turned back to the road grumbling under his breath. For a man half possessed though, his driving wasn't bad. That was one less thing to worry about. As to where they were going, Sang had no idea. She tried to take in any road signs they came across but they weren't on any highway. It was all country roads and there was no indication as to where they were heading. Sang didn't think even Dr. Reed knew where they were going.
"Where are you taking me?" Sang said in a low voice. She didn't want to startle him.
Dr. Reed whipped his head around, "What? Away. To the next town. I know someone. I think they can help me. I will only take you till we can get out from under the cop's raider. I can let you go. Once I can find somewhere to hide. You can go back to your friends. I will keep the car though. I need this."
Sang nodded keeping quiet. She sighed. She missed the boys, wanted to be back with them. Safe in their arms.
