"Pardon me! What do we have here??! A beautiful girl? Well, how are you?"

A blond boy in a white hoodie bumped into ______. She blinked in confusion as the boy bowed and winked up at her through the hair hanging over his face. The girl held two fingers to her temple and sighed at the boy in front of her.

"Masayomi, come on! Can't you just leave her alone??" another voice chimed in.

______ opened an eye and saw another boy with black hair next to the blond. Masayomi straightened and huffed as the boy with black hair tugged at his sleeve.

"Mikado, you're always such a stick in the mud. Can't I ever hit on chicks without you stepping in to steal them??!" He laughed while Mikado dragged him away.

"So Sorry!" the black haired boy apologized as he ushered his friend away. ______ watched while the two headed down the sidewalk in the opposite direction. Shaking her head, she lit a cigarette and continued her walk towards the bar.

The girl was new to Ikebukuro, and tonight was the first time she felt brave enough to leave her new apartment. She had finally finished unpacking, and was all settled in. So after a month or so of living off of take out, she figured she had spent enough time as a hermit. Not to mention, enough of her money. That morning she decided it was time to crawl out of her hole and start looking for a job.

She glanced around, taking the busy city scene in while strolling down the street. ______ decided on Ikebukuro because she needed a place where no one knew who she was. Being 24 years old, she had spent the better part of the last 7 years trying to run and hide. Ikebukuro was a small enough district within Tokyo, and as much bustle that went on, she figured it to be a great place to lay low. Hell, she even cut her hair off after dying it, trying to change her appearance enough so that at a first glance, she looked different. Having people constantly tracking her down wherever she went was exhausting.

The girl sighed, flicking her cigarette away. She never could hold down a job for very long. If she wasn't rushing to leave town, she was getting fired. ______ stopped and looked up, seeing the sign hanging over the door. She found the bar she was looking for. Doubt lingered in her mind as she reached for the door, "I never should've left my room..." she thought while pushing it open.

Once inside, she felt a little more at ease. The familiar smell of the place, and all of the people sitting around with drinks in their hands... This should be no big deal. She's worked at plenty of bars back home, and throughout the various places she had lived. She just hoped to herself that she could hang onto this one. She moved slowly to a man behind the bar, catching a glimpse of her reflection in the mirror behind him. "Just keep your cool, and don't lose your temper," she thought, scolding herself mentally.

Earlier in the day when she decided to go for a walk around the city, she had spotted a flyer right outside her building advertising that this bar needed another bartender. She never expected the man who answered the phone to offer her a working interview that very night. She was feeling brave though, having already settled on the idea of hanging around this place, so she took the offer.

     "What are you having?"

A voice grunted at her. Shaken from her thoughts, she looked up to the man standing behind the bar. He was ridiculously tall compared to her, and almost everyone around. She noticed he was wearing a bartenders uniform. "Oh lord... I hope i don't have to wear a stupid uniform." she thought while shaking her head.

"Nothing. I'm here to see the manager."

She kept eying the man. "What kind of idiot wears sunglasses inside, let alone at night..." she pondered as the man silently pointed a finger towards the direction of the office. She turned away and walked off without thanking him.

The manager seemed eager to bring her on after they spoke for a few minutes. _______ sat back in her chair, listening to him babble on about the rules, hours, and how he was sure she would do fine with her experience. When they were done, the manager motioned for her to follow him back out onto the floor. She was beginning to grow a little excited that she was starting to live in her town like a normal person.

"This is Shizuo Heiwajima." the manager smiled to ______, who just nodeded. "He'll be showing you the ins and outs tonight." He turned to the bartender, who looked annoyed. "Don't get into any trouble tonight. I cant afford anymore repairs..." The bartender narrowed his eyes at the manager while he walked away, leaving ______ standing next to the bartender awkwardly.

"Do you even know what you're doing back here?" the man said, still annoyed.

"This isn't my first rodeo... Lets get the night over with." ______ sighed. "Great," she thought, "this guy is going to be a total douche." She saw his scowl lighten slightly. "Just show me where everything is... I can handle it from there." she grunted while tying an apron around her waist.

Shizuo was more than grateful that ______ knew what she was doing. The bar became slammed, and the drink orders kept coming. He stood back for a few moments, letting her work while he watched. She didn't smile much, he noticed, and she wasn't like the other people the manager had brought in for him to train. She wasn't trying to talk his ear off. The girl was actually pretty silent aside from taking orders. What surprised him the most was that she didn't run off when she was introduced to him. It was almost a relief to him. He figured she either lived under a rock, or wasn't from around here.

As soon as the last group of customers stumbled out of the bar, Shizuo locked the door. With a sigh of relief, he turned to ______, who was already starting the closing side work. He walked over to her, shoving his hands into his pockets.

"Hey kid, what's your name?" He asked, and started counting down the registers. She never looked up from wiping the counter.

"______" Shizuo turned to her and leaned an arm against the register after bagging the money up.

"You new here?"

"What's it to you?" She tossed the towel into a bucket a few feet away from them, placing a hand on her hip and meeting his stare. Shizuo pushed his glasses up with one hand, slightly irritated, but mostly amused.

"It's just obvious you're not from around here." He shrugged, turning away from her glare. "Let's get out of here."

Shizuo locked the front door behind them. He turned to face ______.

"Well, if you want the job, it's yours. I could really use the help." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes.

"If i didn't want the job, I wouldn't have showed up tonight." She looked around. "Smartass..." Shizuo thought to himself, trying not to smile at her comment.

"Then come in tomorrow night, same time." He looked up from his cigarette and saw her turning to leave. "Hey, you live far from here?" It was 3 am... He really didn't want to hear on the news that this girl had been kidnapped. Ikebukuro wasn't the safest place at night. ______ looked at him over her shoulder and replied, as if reading his mind.

"I'll be fine. Its only an hour walk from here." and started off down the road.

"Suit youself..." he muttered as she walked away.
