Chapter Five: Humanity's Strongest Has A Sidekick

Hanji's POV

"Dr. Zoe, you're not supposed to be up!"

Hanji went, "Hah!" as she paced in her little room, her chestnut hair hanging over her eyes.

"Nurse Carla, don't use up all your energy on me. It'll be wasted! How's the situation outside?"

"That'll have to wait until later! It's Commander Erwin. He's been attacked!"

"Attacked?"

The laughs were bottled away and replaced with a serious expression as Hanji said, "Levi."

"No, it was – wait. You knew already?"

"It was a hunch."

Hanji reached under the hospital bed, where her old clothes had been placed in a bin. Quickly, she changed and made her way towards the exit. However, the nurse was faster and blocked her way.

"Oh, no! I only told you about Commander Erwin to keep you informed. You're not going anywhere!"

Hanji looked down on the five foot woman, and smirked.

"You really think you can stop me? Give it a good shot."

"Uh...b-but – Doctor!"

Hanji pushed past Nurse Carla, a scowl on her face. She could only imagine what Erwin had said to piss Levi off, but, whatever it was, it had been enough to get the commander harmed. How bad was the injury? Levi had still had on the maneuvering gear when he left to meet Erwin, so it could be fatal.

"Where's Levi?" Hanji asked, the nurse close behind her in a panic.

"He was sedated and taken to a room on the next floor" the nurse said.

"Sedated? Did he not calm down at all?"

"He attacked the doctors the moment they came into the room, calling them 'flesh eaters' and 'monsters'. Poor Commander Erwin!"

"You need to be worried about both of them!" Hanji snapped, "Is Erwin's wound fatal?"

"No, ma'am."

"Alright, then. He'll make it. It's Levi that's our worry now."

"Huh?" the nurse asked, "Why's he our –"

"Because he freaked out and thought he was in a war zone!" Hanji screamed, "Think for a second! His feelings are all over the charts. The commander will heal fairly quickly. Levi, on the other hand, has wounds that will take much longer to go away, if they ever do at all. Do you get it now?"

Nurse Carla was silent as Hanji boarded the nearest elevator, her face red with irritation.

"Dr. Zoe, please! Don't make this your problem!"

Hanji didn't answer until the doors were close and the elevator had ascended.

"This was my problem the moment he woke up."

Despite her words, Hanji first checked on Erwin. It seems that Levi had slashed Erwin across the stomach twice, but the wound wasn't too deep. Hanji was surprised, not only at the non-fatality of the wound, but of the location. She had just assumed that Levi would go for the neck. However, if he had, Commander Erwin would be in a much worse condition.

"How is Levi?" Erwin asked, sitting on the hospital bed. Due to the lack of extent his wound had, Erwin didn't want to get too comfortable.

"I'm about to go see" Hanji said, "I'm Dr. Zoe, by the way. I'm actually a medical examiner, but ever since Levi waking up, I've kind of been blowing off my job to keep an eye on him."
