There are butterflies in my stomach as the plane lands. I don't know what's after us and what I would be seeing.
Alice rents a car near the airport and she drives us to a small town three hours away. The house is pretty big for just the two people. I wonder how these vampires get there money. All of them seem to be filthy rich.
Two pale-looking folks meet us in front. I am not surprised at all, I was actually expecting this. They look a bit older than Alice, but not less beautiful. There eyes grow bigger when they see me.
"What have we here?" The man says, eyeing me with interest. I become more nervous as his lips turn up slightly.
They become more interested after Alice introduces me as Renesmee's boyfriend.
They let us in their mansion-like house and we all gather at the living room. They seriously aren't fond of sitting. I sit on the couch with Renesmee beside me while the other three stand there like statues.
After a lot of hugging and asking how each one is, Alice tells them what happened.
"Could it be a Volturi?" Kate asks. I can see the fear in her eyes. Renesmee told me in the plane earlier that they were witnesses of Aro's brutal power when the Volturi killed her sister.
"We're not sure yet." Alice answers, "but it seems like it. There are no other covens after us except them. I heard they've grown...more powerful now."
"Yes. They've just welcomed new members."
I just listen, confused and a bit frightened. These are actual vampires and they're saying there are more of them out there.
"Are you ok?" Renesmee whispers at my ear. She must have noticed that my hands are shaking and my heart rate is rising.
"I'm...I think I'm fine." I stutter.
"So what do we do now?" Renesmee asks them.
"We don't know why it's after you...we don't know what they're planning. We couldn't just carelessly make a move. We just wait." Garrett says.
Wait? For what? Until he catches up on us?
Renesmee takes my hand and links her fingers with mine. "It's gonna be ok, Mark. Don't worry."
Don't worry? Seriously? A vampire is after me and she tells me not to worry. But I just nod.
Renesmee and I take one of the rooms upstairs. I can still hear the three talking but I can't make out what they are saying. I wrap my arm around her as she lay beside me on the bed. Feeling tired, I try to close my eyes and welcome sleep. But, thoughts and questions keep me awake.
"Babe," Renesmee notices my eyes still open. "You better rest for now. It might be a long day tomorrow."
"I can't."
"I know you're scared. I am, too. But trust me, Aunt Alice, Garrett and Aunt Kate know what they're doing. They've encountered this before."
"What if the Volturi is really after me...after us?"
"They've always been after us. We were able to evade them for years. I'm sure we'll think of something to get them off your back."
As much as I'm worried about myself, I'm also terrified of Renesmee. What would they do? How powerful are they, really?
Finally, I feel my eyes getting heavier.
When we get up in the morning, Renesmee receives a text message. Her eyes turn sad as she hands me the phone.
'Hyung, Ann's getting out of the hospital tomorrow. When do you plan to talk about the baby? Don't tell me you already forgot about her just because you have Renesmee. Call me when you read this.'
It was from Jackson. That insensitive guy texted this to my girlfriend's phone. I just want to hit him right now.
Renesmee's back is turned on me. I quickly walk to her and wrap my arms around her waist. "Baby," I whisper, "don't mind Jackson. He's just being an ass."
"It's not him, Mark. I'm just scared."
"Of what? Me leaving you? I think you know I won't do that, right?"
"I know Mark. But with the baby coming, it'll be more dangerous."
"We'll find a way. You said it yourself."
She turns to face me and hugs me back. I can feel her tears wetting my shoulder.
How could all these happen at the same time? The worries begin to surface again. There are just too much in my mind right now that I can't even think straight. I don't know which I would prioritize.
"You must be hungry," Renesmee feels the grumbling of my stomach. She giggles and pulls away. "Let me fix you something to eat."
There is nothing in the big house for a human to eat, so we decide to go out. Alice allows us as long as we get back as soon as we finish eating.
We walk in silence to the nearest restaurant, admiring the beauty of the place. My hands hold hers as we stroll down the foreign street.
"Have you ever been here?" I finally ask. Knowing their family is rich, they must have gone to different places.
"In Canada, yes. But not in this particular place. Beautiful, isn't it?" She smiles at the rolling hills just behind the small buildings.
"What other places have you visited?"
"Hmm....a lot..." she giggles. "I've been to most countries in Asia, Europe and America. My mom and dad love traveling. They took me to places." Her eyes suddenly turn sad. "As you know, my development isn't normal. So, to avoid curious eyes, we would move from one place to another."
That must have sucked. Maybe that's why she didn't have any friends, only the family close to her.
"How about you? How did you end up in Korea?"
I tell her the story of me being scouted by the company in LA, the audition and how I got accepted.
"Training must have been hard."
"It was. But it was worth it after. I learned to love what I do. The life as an idol isn't easy either, with schedules packed and tours to go to. But, I had fun."
Soon enough, we reach a small cafe in the center of town. It only holds four tables, which were empty. The lady behind the counter smiles at us as we enter.
"Welcome," she says, almost shouting, "here's the menu."
There weren't much to choose from. So, I just order the first one on the list. Renesmee watches me as I gobbled up the food in a jiffy. I didn't realize how hungry I really was.
"Do you want more?" She jokes.
"Nah...I still have to keep my diet." I rub my hand on my now bulging belly and she giggles.
"Let's go?"
"Did you see that?" Renesmee stops me as we walk out the restaurant.
"What?" I look at the direction her eyes were staring but see nothing.
"The man..." she quickly pulls me in her arms and we speed back to the house. "It's here."
