~The Late Night Book Addiction
Emilia's POV:
The weekend went really well, Noah and I went out to lunch on Saturday and then I came back on Sunday for a lazy movie night. It was a really wonderful weekend, and then it was time for school on Monday.
I am already 20 minutes off track, so I throw on a t-shirt and a some sweatpants from Aeropastle. I practically run to my Audi, and speed most of the way to school.
I quickly enter my combination to my locker, and when I open it a note falls out.
I'm already late, so I may as well read it. The handwriting seems familiar, but I just can't place it. The paper the note was written on is fancy stationary, and in the corner there are initials: MW. Those are Matt's initials, Matt Woods, so what is he doing writing me a letter?
I guess I should read the letter, it could be important. I take a deep breath and start to read:
Emmy,
I honestly don't know how to start this, or what to say, but hey it can't hurt to try right? Noah isn't right for you, he never was. He doesn't treat you like I know I could, and hopefully one day you'll be able to see that. I should have taken the risk of losing our friendship, I know I could make you so happy..but I lost my chance. Take my advice and don't trust Noah, he's not a good guy...I love you with all of my heart Emmy, I always have..
Anonymous.
What does he mean risked our friendship? Matt and I had already dated last year, but it didn't work out. That means someone else must have written the letter, but who? I don't have time to overthink this, so I stuff the note in my binder and head to English.
I am really distracted during the entire period. I can't think straight and at one point Amy even asks me if I'm okay. She tells me all about her date with Sam, and I guess they had a perfect night. Honestly I don't remember most of the details, and halfway through that conversation Amy yells at me for not paying attention.
"Sorry Amy, I guess I just have something on my mind," I say.
Amy won't just let the subject drop with the little piece of information I gave her.
"What's going on, you're not being yourself Emilia, tell me what bothering you, did you have a fight with Noah?" She asks.
"No, our relationship has been great, I've never been happier. It's just, well, I found this in my locker," I tell her, handing her the note.
She quickly reads through it and let's out a sigh.
"Who do you think it is?" She asks.
"I don't know, but did you see the paper has Matt's initials? It can't be him though because it talks about how he should have risked the friendship," I reply.
Amy's face scrunches up in confusion.
"Maybe you should talk to Matt, he might know who did write it," she suggests with a shrug.
"Yeah, maybe," I say thinking it over.
Unknown POV:
She looks so beautiful today, even in sweatpants she effects me. Emilia makes eye contact with me and waves, I wonder if she read my letter. I had to scare some freshman who worked in the office to tell me her locker number.
I see her walking down the hallway toward..my brother? What's she doing talking to him, they dated last year, but she was dating Noah now, which really pissed me off. Technically Matt was only my stepbrother, but he is a pretty cool guy.
The only problem I have with Matt is that I know he still likes Emilia, and as far as I am concerned she's mine. I don't mean to be possessive, but I can see it in her eyes, she feels the same way. Now it's just time to break up the happy couple so I can have her to myself...
After Matt finishes talking to Emilia, he walks right up to me.
"Why the hell did you give Emilia a note on my stationary," he growls.
Shit. I forgot to cover my tracks, but I'm assuming that he didn't say anything to Emilia, otherwise she woukd have confronted me.
"You didn't tell her it was me, right? Otherwise I'll tell Darlene about your little problem," I threaten. Matt smoked pot, and his mom would be pissed if she found out.
"No, I didn't. I told her I didn't know who wrote the note, but you have to be more careful, and stop being so creepy and talk to her," Matt tells me.
"I would, but anyone who looks at her, Noah punches in the face," I explain.
"Okay, well just keep me out of it, I have more important things to worry about," he tells me.
"Yeah, like your habit," I mumble.
Matt just ignores me and walks away, obviously this was the end of the Emilia conversation.
Emilia's POV:
School goes by pretty much the same way, distracting and uneventful. Noah wanted me to come by his apartment after school to hang out, but I declined saying that I'm tired. The truth is I'm afraid I will tell him about the note I received in my locker this afternoon.
Being at home is really boring, so I text Amy and ask her if she wants to do anything, but she's hanging out with Sam. Their relationship is so cute, honestly Sam acts really tough, but he's like Noah in the sense that he's really a teddy bear.
I'm about to give up after Nicole, Amy, and Mindy all have plans, but then my phone buzzes with a text.
From:Ash
Hey, wanna catch up over coffee like we talked about? :)
I'm not sure if it's a good idea, I know Noah doesn't like the idea of us hanging out, but I'm bored so.. I guess it couldn't hurt, after all Ashton has been my friend for years, and my head was starting to hurt from lack of caffeine. I type out a quick reply:
To: Ash
Sure, sounds good. How about my favorite place in 15?
Ashton texts back and agrees to meet me at Loco Latte, my favorite coffee shop in the area. I don't even bother fixing my hair, because honestly he doesn't care about my appearance.
I hop in my Audi and head to the coffee shop, which is only about 10 minutes from my house. They have the best coffee and pastries, and their staff isn't bad looking either (don't tell Noah I said that haha).
When I arrive Ash is already sitting in a corner booth with our coffees.
"Hey," he greets, standing up to give me a hug.
I smile back at him,
"Hey, what did you order me?" I ask.
"A vanilla latte, your favorite," he replies.
"Thanks, I didn't think you would remember," I say, genuinely surprised.
"Yeah, sorry about that, that's why I asked you to come here, actually. Before you and Noah started dating, I had a girlfriend named Liyla, and she didn't like that we were friends. She thought I was going to cheat on her with you. I broke up with her a week ago, I guess I realized how stupid it was to not be friends with you because of that. I'm sorry, Emmy," he says looking sad.
I don't know what to say, I guess it's kind of upsetting knowing he chose Liyla over our friendship.
"I forgive you, just don't be so stupid next time," I joke.
"I won't I promise, I guess the love just kind of took over, ya know. I was so afraid of losing her, but thanks for your forgiveness," he says looking relived.
Soon after that we talked for about two hours in the coffee shop. Everything was back to normal, and our friendship was back. I know Noah won't be happy about it, but it's good to have another friend.
