"Honey, how are you and Liam? I was thinking of inviting his family over for dinner, I already have some great recipes saved in my folder!"
Louis felt his heart break for the millionth time, and tried to keep his voice from shaking, "Uh, I don't know." He was sat on his bed with the phone pressed on his ear, scrolling through a page on his laptop.
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing."
"Louis, I know you. Something's wrong, did you get in a fight with him?"
"Mum, please."
"Lou-"
"We were never together. We were never in a relationship and I'm so sorry for lying to you. I hesitated and I lied to you and I'm crap. I'm sorry," Louis confessed as he felt tears coming. It was silent on Johannah's side, pure silence. "Mum?" Louis called out, wiping his eyes.
"Oh, then that's really shocking to me. You don't have to cry Louis, I understand."
Louis couldn't stop the tears from falling and he tried to keep in his sobs as he covered his mouth. "Honey, oh my God. Please, don't cry. What's wrong? Please, come over right now." Louis nodded as if she can see him and he wiped his face with his sleeve, "Okay, I love you."

"Louis, it's me."
Liam arrived at Louis' place and waited at the door after a few knocks on the door. He wanted to know Louis' thoughts and needed to sort out his own thoughts. "Louis, please," Liam called out, starting to feel desperate. He looked down at the ground as he stuffed his hands in his pockets and started walking towards his car until he heard the door open.
Liam turned around and saw Louis standing there, looking at him with a blank face. The bags under his eyes were visible and his eyes were still red from crying during his phone call with his mother. Liam felt his stomach drop and he had a need to reach out for him and just hold him against his chest. He can't, though.
"What are you doing here?" Louis asked in a low voice, almost a whisper. "I'm here to talk, to figure things out. Fix everything," Liam spoke, stepping closer to him, but Louis slightly backed away into his place, going behind the door. Liam has never seen Louis in that state, he never looked drained and tired, he was never afraid of him.
"Louis, I don't want it to be like this. You were never like this, you were never afraid of me. Why?"
Louis' expressionless face then turned into annoyance, "Why? I'll tell you why. I am in love with you, you idiot. I'm like this because I thought I had a chance with you and I thought you felt the same. You know why? The night of New Years. That kiss meant something to me, Liam. At that exact moment, I thought I had a chance. You want to know why I'm like this? I fucking saw you with her at the club. It crushed me and I am like this because of you. Please, leave me alone."
"Lou-"
Liam was cut off from the door being slammed shut and he felt like crying. He doesn't want to lose Louis and he doesn't want Louis to be upset. It's all his fault. He wanted to protect Louis from getting hurt, but he ended up being the one to hurt him.
Louis grabbed his phone and typed out a message to his mother.
Come over to my place instead.
