I was gasping as I paced walked down the street. I was three blocks away when a truck pulled up along side the curb as it horn beeped. I stopped and looked saw it was Derek. The guy who drove us.
"Not a good idea to be walking around here, get in I'll give you a ride." He said.
I got in the truck he drove on out. He ended up taking me to the big creek. He parked
"Figure you rather come here for awhile."
I stared at the water, as I exhale deeply
"I...I just wish, why...why am I even here...why can't they love me." I looked at him
"Its like no one can see I'm in pain...I'm hurting too." Tears began running down my face, I choked a bit
"I wanna be loved, everyone's always leaving...don't they think I hate being deaf not being able to hear my own voice well, being picked on, getting beat on cause of it...my father was the only one who ever loved me now he's gone...my own mother doesn't love me."
I shook my head and said "why am I saying this to you..take me home you don't even care...no one cares."
"I do care." Derek said.
I laughed softly and said "that's what they all say, than when in need they're nowhere to be found...just take me home, I got school."
He took me home, I got out the truck and went inside the house. Trisha saw me. I looked at her, saw the look in her eyes.
"Don't worry, I'll be out of your house by next year." I said
Her eyes widen as she said "Kayla, I..."
I cut her off "save it." I went to my room and closed the door.
Three Months Later
I finally gotten that package dad said that will be delivered to me. It was filled with some stuff, gotten a set of keys some information I needed. I read the letter. Saw that dad left me the keys to an apartment. And said I was to go see a woman name Queenie, I was to go to her in Red Hook. She is to help me.
I folded the letter put it in the box and hid it under my bed, so Trisha won't see it.
One day I was walking home from school. I looked up when I saw familiar truck. Then I saw Derek, he was leaning against the door.
"Hey." He said
"Hey what you doing here?" I asked
"Wanted to talk... Can we go for a ride." He said.
I shrugged my shoulder and got in the truck. We rode to the lake, got out and sat down on the bench. He took a deep breath.
"I finally understand how you're feeling." He said, I looked at him, he licked his lips a bit
"Since we talked, I began doing a lot of research about hearing impairment, during my vacation I had did the experiment went a whole month with these plugs in my ears..." He shook his head as his eyes got a little watery.
