It was cold out. Very cold. The cars were coated with ice from last night. Everyone was indoors and warm under there toasty fires. Christmas time did that. Not so much a white christmas but christmas nonetheless. Ava sighed leaning her head against the cool metal of the forklift. Just a few more hours she thought as she watched everyone leave. "Night ave! Merry christmas" they would say as the filed through the door. Finally came her boss.

" you sure about this ave?" he asked looking concerned.

"Posotive. Have fun. merry christmas" she said quickly. Boss sighed nodding.

"You too" he shut the door. Ava was alone.

One more delivery and she would be off home. Quick as a fiddle. If only.
She pulled herself up miling around the warehouse until the short bell rang. Opening the door, she signed the paper before all the stock was rolled in. After the christmas rush, they needed all the stock they could get.

As soon as the people were gone - Ava loaded the items on to the fork lift, dropping and scanning until no boxes were left. Looking at the window she realised it was already dark out. 10:45 at that. She cursed under her breath. It shouldn't have taken that long. She had to get home. Change and get to Donald Morgans party.

The pair had stuck to thier truce and now treated eachother a human beings. Ava as a 'friend' was invited to his party. Seeing nothing else to do, she agreed. She quickly headed home, pulling on a red shirt and jeans and a tinsel headband leaving her dark soft hair out for the first time. It was simple but at least it went with the theme. Sighing she quickly grabbed her things and headed off. Morgan didn't live too far so she decided to walk seeing as there was no chance of parking.

Ava pulled her jacket closer and quickened her pace managing to arrive at the party 15 minutes later. The music was booming from the 360° sound bluetooth speakers around the huge rooms.

"Avery! You came! I thought you would be a no show." Donald smiled hitting her on the back. She mockingly punched him back.

"Yeah. I came" she smiled back.

"Comee oon then! Lets partaayyy" he yelled pulling her through the crowd. Greeting everyone. He managed one dance before he was pulled away by some other girl in a tight santa dress.

Ava was still chuckling as she went to the drinks table and picked up a cup of cola. She didn't get to drink any though because it went flying out of her hands all over the table.

"Shit ssory didn't ssee youu" the voice behind her slurred.

"No problem." she replied brushing down her top from the few droplets of coke that had managed to spill the opposite way. "Not that thirsty anyway."

"Iii rally amm ssoryy." the person continued. Ava turned, about to reply but her throat went dry and the words evaporated to nothing.

What was Carl doing here? She thought. Wait he went to the school. Stupid question.

"Youu knoww I knoww a gurll. I like herr shhess nieece. Butt imanidiot annnd!" he continued, barely recognising who he was talking to. "Youu llookkk like heerr?! Hhahahhaha"

Despite the anger, Ava chuckled at his drunken state. You would never see Carl like this. NEVER. "Annywayy. Whatts yourrr name?" he continued wiggling his eyebrows.

"Ava."

"Oh wowww youu have the samee namee!"

"Yeahh..."

He smiled then. A sad smile. It made him look so ... different. Ava smiled back. Her heart ached for him - was the notebook really his fault? He saved her life for goodness sake. Sighing she turned around. She was thinking too much.

"Wait dont go! I dont want to be... Alone... Again..."

Ava spun around again to see carls face. Properly this time. His eyes showed longing that ava could not refuse.

"So carl. Wanna dance?" what was there to lose? He was drunk. He wouldn't remember.

"Yes!" carl yelled. The desperation gone as he grabbed her arm to the dance floor without another word.

The night passed quickly Carl and Ava sticking together. Ava felt light. No worries - As if everyrhing was okay. And in that moment she let herself believe it. Because maybe. Just maybe - it would all straighten out and everything would be ... Okay.
