"Ava?" Carl tried again. The girl in front of him didn't move. Not a cough or a turn. He clenched his teeth cursing his brother to hell. He hated him. But family was family and Carl knew that was a trait he couldn't get rid of.

"Ava please" Carl could feel the knot in his throat growing as each second passed.

"Carl" Diana said as she walked in with two coffee's. Carl looked at her‚ forcing tears back. He couldn't be weak. Not in front of his gang. He took his coffee and sat down again‚ leaning back and letting out a quick breath.

"She'll be okay... Right?" Diana's voice was broken and when he looked at her she had put down her coffee and begun crying. Diana herself hated being weak but she couldn't help it. The tears flowed out. Carl didn't know what to do. He did this. He hurt them‚ the whole gang.

"She will be. Ava will be just fine. I know it." He reassured. But it didn't help. His own voice was unsteady and it was clear he was saying it more to himself than to Diana. Something happened then. Ava's breathing was heard. Loud and jerky. Then she coughed. Not a gentle one. It was the type where a person would be coughing up blood.

She was hacking for half a minute before Diana went to go find a doctor. Carl was immediately at Ava's side trying to calm her. Everything zoomed past and before long Carl was pulled away and the doctors were doing their job‚ injecting her with a clear liquid.

Her coughing ceased immediately and she lay still again. The doctors moved around her. Checking pulse and a whole load of other things before finally turning to Carl and Diana.

"Well?" Carl asked before the doctor opened his mouth.

"She's perfectly fine. Her chest has gathered a bit of an infection. It's not a problem though‚ I'm guessing she's usually quite active and the fact that she's not been on her usual routine means her health isn't up to its standards. She'll need to use an inhaler for a while after she wakes though."

Carl sighed in relief. Thanking the heavens it wasn't anything serious.

"Also - we're sure she should wake after the anesthetic has worn off." The doctor smiled and Carl thanked him. Diana smiled. Ava wasn't going to die. Ava would be okay.
