Ava stood at the small fire she had created in the wood. The area she had picked was clear of people and the only noise she heard was the flickering on the flames as they ate up the wood she fed them.

Her book was held tight in her hand as she tempered the flame. The night before she had read it through for the last time, but she was void of emotion at the time and still was as she raised the flame that would kill some of her past. Swallow it whole and let it disintegrate in its presence.

Finally deciding it was enough, she held her book up, taking in the details of her carefully drawn graffiti on the cover. Giving one last sigh she threw it into the fire and watched as it disappeared - engulfed by the heat and light, and she watched until the flames went down and left nothing but a pile of ashes. She watched until the sun was long gone from the sky. She watched until the stars began glimmering in its place. She watched until her eyes drooped and she fell into deep slumber on the cool dried mud. Alone. Broken. Free.

Dedication: LeannaRoxell because I just got like 65 notifs from her votes - cheers Leanna 😊
