Epilogue: 5 years later.
"Order on table six. Hurry it up."
Ava sipped her coffee despite being wide awake while drawing a sketch in her book.
"Ma'am did you order a grill cheese?"
She shook her head and continued her sketch. It formed a person. No one she knew, just what she had on mind. The person was on the pavement, eyes half open. Bruised shaded his arms and face. Blood dripped down his mouth and sweat covered him. But he was half getting up. Determination just seen in his eyes and his hands in a tight fist. Despite the blood his teeth were clenched. If you looked carefully you could see the shadow of a figure towering over him, weapon and hand.
"That's so cool." Someone said from behind. Ava looked back to see a guy looking over her shoulder, a waiter's apron around his neck.
"Thanks."
"I'm Charlie. Do I know you from somewhere?"
Ava shook her head. She knew no one.
"You look familiar."
"Maybe someone else?" She suggested.
"No. No I definitely saw you. A picture maybe?"
She shrugged but the boy was persistent. He pulled out his phone and scrolled through. He was probably 6 maybe 7 years younger. His build was pretty sturdy but nothing on Ava.
He finally looked up.
"Yeah! Here look!"
Avery did look - only to find a picture of the gang. It was pretty old. Taken when Ava had first accepted the gang - during the party they held for her. She was laughing along with Diana and Carl at a very drunk Kane.
"How did you get that?" She asked softly as memories flitted past making her mind go hazy.
"I got it off my brother. It was a neat picture and the stories he told me about you lot - wow just... Wow."
"Who's your brother?"
"Carson."
I shook my head. There was no Carson in the gang.
"I don't know his gang name. I can show you a picture though." He suggested before swiping through his pictures for one specific one. "This one's from a couple years back. From when the gang was alive."
"Flint's your brother." Ava said slowly as memories rushed past even faster.
"Yeah."
"Wait. What do you mean 'when the gang was alive' " she asked as of the words just registered.
"I thought you would know. Couple years back there was a feud thing between a new gang and the Royal Riders. There was a raid and it happened in public. Police came and guns were bought out. People got shot. Half the gang got locked up. It was crazy. After that neither gangs got back together. They just... Stopped existing."
"Shit. Did anyone die?"
"No. But it was pretty bad. Carl took a bullet for Flint and I love the guy. He's like my other brother. After that mom and dad found out what Carson - eh Flint - was doing so we moved down here."
Ava nodded in understanding. Her gut was twisting but she kept a straight face. She couldn't help but wonder if she could've helped. Not for Carl. For the gang.
"Hey. Why dont you come see Carson. He would always go on about you. He didn't tell me what got you to leave but he always says he regretted it. He always says he feels bad."
Ava looked at the boy. Should she? Would Carson hate her for leaving? Her gut twisted more. She wanted to see him. See the gang. She wanted to feel like she belonged again. She found herself nodding a yes before gathering her stuff and following the boy out. She would see a friend. A brother again. And maybe. Just maybe she might be able to make this right with the rest of the gang too.
End.
