Ø  Thursday 3:00 pm Home Ec Room/Tay, Vinn, Lauren, Parker & Mrs. Peterson

Mrs. Peterson’s voice carries out into the hallway as she is explaining the instructions again to Tay, Vinn, Lillian, and Parker.  She stood in front of the two closest cubicles to the chalkboard at the front of the room.  There were only four students in the room, having to make up their cake baking today.

“Are you sure that’s what “tsp” means?” asked Lillian holding up a small silver teaspoon, “I could have sworn it meant today’s special pepper.”  Parker hung his head in embarrassment as he listened to his ginger cousin talk.

“Yes, Ms. Chaste that is what it means. I have been baking things longer than anyone else in this room,” explained Mrs. Peterson rubbing her temples and walks away from their station to check on Tay and Vinn.

“That’s what she thinks,” whispered Parker to Lillian.  Lillian giggled; she loved being on the inside of the private joke.

“Tay, I still don’t see why we had to follow the girls into this stupid class. It’s a scary thought thinking I might die of eating our own food,” babbles Vinn as he is cracking the two small white eggs on the corner of the mixing bowl.

“I wanted at least one class with my baby this semester. I would have felt real lonely without seeing her more than like three times a day,” Tay whined, daydreaming about Brenna.

“You are love struck man.  It’s actually a little sickening,” Vinn coaxed Tay back to reality by snapping his fingers in Tay’s face, “You need to get a life; or become a man and less of a chick.”

“You better hope I don’t tell Shawna that you just called women ‘chicks’. She’ll probably kick your ass for that,” Tay said with a smile on his face, while placing the cake pan in the roasting oven.  “And no one is gonna stop her. I would just watch and laugh.”

“I hope she does,” Vinn winked to no one.  Tay shoved Vinn playfully, making a fake retching noise.

Mrs. Peterson tells the kids that she will be back in the room in fifteen minutes after trying to walk Lillian and Parker through the baking directions.  She popped a pill, and took a swig of water, and walked out into the hallway.  As Mrs. Peterson was walking out of the classroom door, Vinn saw from the corner of his eye Lillian and Parker looking at them with curious faces.  Lillian was debating with herself why she didn’t have the ability to make Tay or Vinn drool like she could with guys on the baseball and football teams.

“Boo ginger and twig, what are you two starin’ at?” Vinn said with a pissed off attitude.

Tay turned around to see who Vinn was talking to. Lillian and Parker both look surprised that Vinn actually said something to them.

“Who do you think you’re talking to? I know he isn’t talking to us like that,” says Parker with his ghetto attitude to Lillian.

“Apparently I am talking to some nosey, stuck up, rich-ass children,” explained Vinn taking a few steps forward with Tay at his side.

“Who the hell you calling nosey and stuck up?” questioned Lillian. “Because I know damn well you are not talking about me. Cause for one you don’t know shit about Parker or me, so how about you try that one again, you muscle headed, wanna be bad ass, that don’t know what the fuck your little brain is talking about.”

“You need to keep your little ‘hussy gang’ out of other people’s business,” chimed in Parker to back up his cousin.

Vinn started to shake when he heard Parker call his friends hussies. He falls to the floor and begins to shake even harder.  Tay pauses not knowing how to react, this has never happened in such a public place, and Shawna and Brenna were always around when it did happen.  Tay leans down and tries to calm Vinn down, like he has seen Shawna do a few times before, when he hears footsteps getting closer to the room.

Mrs. Peterson stalks in with a curious look on her face. “What is going on in here? I could hear yelling in the next room.”  She notices Vinn convulsing on the floor and feels her heartbeat begin to rush, “Oh my goodness!  I will go get the nurse!”  She can’t seem to make her feet move though her mind is screaming at them, so she stays put and stares at Vinn flailing on the floor in front of the oven containing their complete cake.

Still leaning down, Tay gets a better grip on Vinn and helps him up.  “NO! I mean no, it’s fine Mrs. Peterson he’ll be fine.”  Once Tay knows that Vinn is okay and will not fall over again, he runs over to their cubicle and turns off the timer, that has been going off for about two minutes now, takes out the cake and places it on the cooling rack.  “Yeah, everything is fine Mrs. Peterson; I just need to take Vinn home. He is not feeling too well at this point,” Tay said in a rushed and calm voice. “Our cake is done, and I hope that you can grade it and let Vinn and I know when we come back to school tomorrow.”

“Yes, I will grade it tonight and see you boys in class tomorrow.” Mrs. Peterson says while putting her hand on Vinn’s shoulder. “I hope you feel better by tomorrow Vinn.”  Vinn manages a nod in Mrs. Peterson’s direction as Tay practically carried him out of the home ec room. Tay and Vinn rush out of the school building as if it was on fire.
