Ø  Saturday Night-Baci Drove

The day had worn on into an early evening. The colors of the sun setting flooded into the window.  Vinn was strewn across the couch in the living room and Shawna was balled up in his arms flipping through standard cable channels mindlessly trying to find anything worth watching.

“Stop, go back, that looked like something good” Tay said. He was leaning back in the faded tan love seat with his feet up on the poorly cared for coffee table.

“Really, Tay? That was the History Channel; do you really think there is going to be anything good on that channel?” Shawna huffed continuing to channel surf.  “We don’t have school for another two days so please don’t make me watch something educational. Sometimes you really piss me off, can’t we watch a normal teenage show!”

“Just because it’s the end of the quarter doesn’t mean we can just slack off, we have a whole ‘nother quarter to go. So maybe a little educational T.V. is exactly what we need around here,” Tay rebutted moving around on the love seat nervously.  Why is she being so angry? Usually she’ll watch the History Channel if there’s not much else on.

Vinn butted in trying to be the voice of reason, “Babe just watch the History Channel; there’s obviously nothing else on,” he was about to take the remote from Shawna when the sound of exploding glass came from the small alcove kitchen.

“I don’t believe this!” Brenna’s voice was piercing.  Shawna automatically shot up out of Vinn’s arms and practically ran into the kitchen.

Vinn turned to Tay, “Um, you gonna go check that out, Tay?”

Tay turned is head tentatively toward the kitchen.  He couldn’t see anything but he had a feeling what was going on in there, “Eh, it’s probably just her time of the month or something, not anything for us to worry about.”  Tay turned back around to face the 48 inch television.

Vinn made a single, deliberate nod of agreement and turned the volume up on the T.V.

In the kitchen Shawna ran in on Brenna shaking with a balled and bleeding fist, staring out the door into the immense backyard.  “Bug, what is it? What’s wrong?”  Shawna walked in front of Brenna over the millions of pieces of broken glass.  She grabbed Brenna’s wrist and opened her hand.  There was blood oozing from tiny, invisible cuts, Shawna wrapped a kitchen hand towel around her injured hand.  Brenna didn’t say anything she just kept staring out the back window.  Shawna followed her gaze, just in time to see someone disappear into the woods behind the house.

“Jonny,” this was all Shawna could mutter.

All of the sudden Brenna found her words, “That jerk is still sneaking behind our backs!”

“Not for long, I’m gonna kill him!”  Shawna almost tore down the back door as she dashed into the backyard.  The moon was full and bright; even though it was behind some clouds it lit the backyard in ambience.  Brenna was still standing behind the door in the kitchen, she was too afraid to follow Shawna into the backyard.

Brenna saw a light breeze whip Shawna’s auburn hair to the east, as Shawna feel to her knees in the middle of the backyard.  The light from the moon shone brighter than before.  The next thing Brenna knew she was rushing to Shawna’s side, as she started to shake on the lush carpet of grass in the yard.

“I’m changing and I can’t control it. It’s the moon, Brenna,” Shawna was on her hands and knees, gripping tightly onto the grass as if it might keep her from losing her mind.

“Bunny,” Brenna ran her fingers through Shawna’s messed up hair, “That can’t be it.  You can fight this, the full moon has no affect on us anymore, remember?”  Shawna began to convulse in the very distinct way their bodies did when they were trying to fight off “the change”.  Brenna knew automatically what she had to do; she had done it at least once before to each of the members of the group.  She pinned Shawna to the ground, holding Shawna’s wrists in her own hands and sitting on top of Shawna’s body.
