"I believe you have been expecting me." Spencer immediately burst out into a smile when she heard the easily recognisable voice.
"Toby!" The girl ran across the school's hall into the mans arms. More than anything, more than the celebrations and the party she just wanted to see the man she truly adored. It had been only weeks since she had last saw him but that time apart had showed Spencer that it was Toby she truly loved, if she couldn't stay away from him for those few days how could she ever spend any more time away?
"Did you miss me?" Toby asked with a slight chuckle, already knowing the answer by the women's actions.
"Where did you get that idea from?" Spencer grinned, her mother looked over from afar and was amazed at how happy Toby made her.
"Now, this party then." Spencer just rolled her eyes at the man bringing it up. However much she loved her mother and her mother's power over the town it sometimes got a bit too much. It felt like all the time she had to put on a facade showing a person she was not but now with Toby around the fake front wouldn't be as hard to keep up.
"It's going to be truly magnificent." Spencer said in a trying to mock a higher class person.
"Do I have an invite?" The man raised a brow with a childish smile plastered on his face.
"Toby, you're the only reason I'm going.""Have you got any plans for tonight then?" Emily's mother asked her as she stirred the coffee for the both of them. Emily placed her phone down on the table trying to appreciate the conversation they were having even though the topic chosen she couldn't contribute much to.
"I don't think so. I had an invite to Spencer's party but I'm going to give it a pass."
"And whys that then? Spencer's your friend and anyway it will be a great night I bet you."
Emily met her mother's eyes as she pulled the coffee close to her letting the steam warm her slightly.
"Mom, me and Spencer haven't spoke in years. If this is some peace offering I'm not really for it."
"You girls went through so much together, what happened to you all?"
"We grew up." Emily's words were harsh but so were her memories of all the girls. The girl seemed to be the first one to move away from the group when she gained more wealth. It was as if she got bored of pulling them round on leads and let them all go. Hanna was next but Emily didn't mind. Hanna was the only one who tried to stay in touch, tried to keep them all together however much it failed. Aria was after that. Maybe Aria's was one of the ones that hurt the most. It was New Year's one night and the girls were all celebrating together for one of the last times and she just left. Just like that. There was no goodbyes and as she had moved in to the same apartment block as her old English teacher she saw how much the girls actions had broke Ezra's heart. Finally was Alison. Alison was the only one Emily truly adored, this stemmed from ever since they were young. However like Spencer, power got to her and that caused her to push Emily away slightly. But they still had something. She remembered the promise that tonight they would meet and maybe that was the reason she wanted to box herself away from the world. She was too scared Alison wasn't going to show.
