Movie night.
Every Wednesday night like clock work.
Clarke's friends gathered in her large loft apartment that her mother insisted she needed. (It sounded petty but Clarke really didn't need the big apartment)
First came Jasper and Monty with snacks. Normally popcorn, cheez-its, licorice, chocolate, and sometimes the occasional "special" brownie.
Next Raven and Wick made their way from their "top secret" project. They brought the movie this week.
Bellamy, Murphy, and Miller always came in together from their busy police work. Miller always made a beeline to sit with his boyfriend of five years, Monty. Murphy and Bellamy typically found Clarke fussing over ungraded assignments from her students. They always walked on either side of her and kissed her cheeks simultaneously. It always made her laugh and forget the grading (until they left). It was pretty obvious who her favorites were. Her best friends since preschool, of course.
Next came Lincoln and Octavia who always brought the refreshments. Clarke had complained about the hangover from their last choice for DAYS. So they brought pop this time.
Last to arrive was always Finn. Always. It should surprise her friends more, but Finn was a flake. Always was, always is. He stumbled in the door in a hurry. Clarke was typically squished in between Bellamy and Murphy at this point, but when Finn arrived Clarke would launch up to kiss her boyfriend of a year and six months.
Everyone found their respective spots. Even though Finn was here, Clarke still sat squished between her best friends. She was not a clingy girlfriend. She was a clingy friend though.
Just as the movie began Finn ran to the bathroom, Clarke's phone rang, and thunder boomed outside. Raven paused the movie and waited for Clarke to take the call. "Hello?" She asked with a small laugh.
"Clarke, honey." It was Clarke's mother.
"What is it mom?" Clarke asked noticing the way all her friends began to wait impatiently for the newest Abby Griffin anecdote.
"Honey, it's your father, he was hit by a drunk driver. He didn't make it." Clarke felt her whole world collapse around her. Murphy noticed first, having been there when she lost Wells when they were 17, he gently took Clarke's hand and squeezed. Bellamy noticed her tears and waited for the call to end before asking, "what's wrong, Clarke?"
"M-my dad..." Clarke barely got it out as she sunk into Bellamy's embrace. "He's g-gone." Bellamy held her tighter as all their friends began to let the news sink in. They had all known Jake Griffin since they had known Clarke Griffin. He was the best man anyone of them knew.
"Oh god." Octavia said standing up and running to the bathroom Finn wasn't using. She spilled the content of her stomach in there. Jake was the only father figure she ever had, besides Bellamy. Lincoln followed and held her, trying to calm her down.
Wick held a blank face for the death of his mentor as Raven silently rubbed the knuckles of the hand she held. She hoped this wouldn't completely destroy him.
Jasper was completely silent. He stood and walked the kitchen where they all heard a large clatter. Jake had helped Jasper get out of some stupid mistakes back in high school. No one forgot that. Monty tore himself away from the stoic Miller and to his broken best friend.
Murphy and Bellamy wouldn't fall apart until Clarke was sleeping peacefully. The man who helped raise them as his own and allowed the best girl in the world to be their best friend since they were four years old was gone. But he was Clarke's most important person and he was gone. She was completely broken. She had already fallen apart into a million pieces.
