"Honestly, don't you two read?" - Hermione Granger

-------------------------------------------------------

Where was I now? In the lands of Narnia? Or completely sucked into the misfortunate lives of the Baudelaire children? Deeply engrossed in my book, I failed to notice the looming figure approaching me from behind." I cannot fathom why you continue to waste time reading this rubbish." I frowned.

"It's impolite to sneak up on somebody." I uttered softly. He ignored me.

"If you truly have so much time on your hands, then I suggest you open some of your new textbooks that I took the liberty of purchasing for you." I frowned again. It's not like I asked him to. I thought internally. Father sent me a death glare.

"W-what?!" I exclaimed nervously. Father opened his mouth as if to say something, but he closed it again. He turned to exit the room. Once at my door he turned back around.

"Watch what you think." I frowned. What? Father disappeared before I could ask. I sighed. I hadn't seen Harry or heard from him for the entire summer, and now, Luna wasn't answering my letters. I had received a letter from Hermione at the beginning of the summer, but no reply after I sent one back. That's it! I couldn't take this anymore. I was gonna go see Harry, whether father agreed or not. I raced downstairs barefoot and tripped over the rug, twisting my ankle.

"Ow!" I whined loudly. I heard hurried footsteps.

"What in-" Father groaned at the sight of me, with a foot tangled in the rug. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Must you be so clumsy?" I glared at him.

"I didn't do it on purpose!" Father ignored this and knelt down next to me. He aimed his wand at my leg and muttered something. My foot suddenly felt hot, and then quite cold. I winced in discomfort.

"So what did you need to tell me so urgently that you were not able to walk down the stairs like a normal person?" I frowned.

"How did you know I had to tell you something?"

"That is unimportant. Now what did you need?" Father said impatiently.

I hesitated. "I-I need to see Harry!" Father closed his eyes.

"Not today." He started to get up.

"You've been saying that all summer! Why can't I see my brother? If you really are that busy, then I'll just go myself!" Father stopped in his tracks.

"You will not. I am your godfather and I will not allow you to wander the streets all alone at night."

"Then come with me! And it's only six in the evening." I bargained.

"Maybe next week." I frowned in annoyance. Father got up and walked away. Fine. If that was how he was gonna be, I'd just have to sneak out when he fell asleep.

It was twelve at night. Father was still up planning lessons. I groaned. When was he going to sleep?! Then, as if on cue, I heard the light click and the room was engulfed in darkness.

Half an hour later, I decided it was safe to go. I pulled on my jeans and sweatshirt, and tiptoed downstairs. I crawled across the foyer just in case father hadn't fallen asleep in his armchair. I slowly stood up, and gently unbolted the door. I walked out into the summer night, and closed the door behind me. I walked just less than half an hour before spotting the familiar, normal house of my aunt and uncle.
