Chapter 17: If I Jumped

Marks POV

I didn't even hesitate before I went after Karli. This wasn't a great time for her to be alone. I don't know what she will do, or do to herself...

If she did something and I had a chance to stop it, I would never forgive myself.

Karli's POV

I couldn't take this anymore. Nobody cares.

If I jumped, nobody will even notice. Nobody will mourn for me.

If I jumped, people would clap and cheer. Celebrating because I finally listening to them. "Kill yourself" "You're not needed here. Go six feet under already."

I took a step closer to the edge.

If I jumped.... New fresh tears sprang to my eyes. Nobody will miss me. I don't have anyone. All that I care about is gone. Everybody that I cared about, gone.

Step.

If I jumped, then the world will become a better place. I wouldn't be a burden.

Step.

I sniffed and used my sleeve to wipe my face. Yet, it wasn't mine, it was Mark's.

Why would he give this to me?
Why did he comfort me?
Why didn't he just walk away?
Why did he stay?
Why did he try to calm me down?
Why did he hold me when I screamed and cry?
Why did he help me?
Why did he want to help me?

Did he care? Could somebody possibly care?

No.

Step.

I'm pathetic.

Step.

Nobody wanted me.

Step.

If I jump... Nobody will even remember me.

Step.

I was now at the complete edge, my toes touching the air.

Just one more step.

Mark's POV

I ran after Karli as fast as I could. She was faster. I even lost her sometimes. I don't know how long I ran. I knew it was worth it though. She's worth anything.

I completely lost her. Then, on the corner of my eye, I saw her.

I suddenly got an adrenaline rush in my blood. I had new strength and speed. I chased after her as fast as my tired legs would take me.
