Chpt 4 - New beginnings
A knock at the door was a heard and a petite blonde nurse wearing a light blue top and white trousers let herself into the room. Her round face and soft features made her look innocent and young, yet her web of black mascara and bright red lipstick didn't work in her favor. She held a plastic white tray with a piece of plain bread and a glass of water on it in her small, trembling hands. She smiled shakily and walked past the boys, shyly ducking her head as she nudged past them. She set the tray down beside my bed and hastily reached into her pocket, picking out a small jotter. Her wide eyes scanned it carefully.
" Alright, Ms. Strait,"
She squeaked, her lips quivering. She cast a shaky glance at the boys. I frowned, processing her words slowly, I guessed my last name was 'Strait'.
"Y - You will only be eating plain food for the next few days, that you will spend in hospital. You have been diagnosed with an average case of brain damage, causing you to lose your memory. "
Her voice was tremulous. I smiled sweetly and went to thank her but she turned abruptly and thrust her note-book towards the boys, squealing and fan-girling uncontrollably.
"Can I have your autograph!?" She squeaked and my eyes widened. One direction must have been really big.
Harry smirked, along with Zayn, and Louis beamed at her. Niall smiled his toothy smile and grabbed his cap, placing it on the table beside my cot. Liam looked amused, as if this happened every day, and reached his hand towards the squealing nurse, taking her jotter from her.
"Sure, love." He smiled reassuringly.
He grabbed a pen out of his jean pockets and signed his name, then passed it to Harry. Harry smirked up at her, his dimples peaking through.
"Who's it signed to?" He asked her.
"Sarah!" She squeaked excitedly.
Harry finished his work and the notepad was passed around the group until Niall handed it back to her and she looked down at it eagerly, before tucking it into her pocket carefully as if it were some sort of valuable piece of jewellery. I felt left out and excluded as she chatted to them aimlessly.
"Have you seen the crowd outside?" She asked them, her voice still high-pitched and squeaky. I realised the endless screaming wasn't coming form inside my head, but from outside. I turned my head to look out of the window and instantly felt dizzy. The very room we were standing in was located several stories up, my breathing hitched and I discovered something more about myself.
I had a fear of heights.
The world spun and I shut my eyes tightly, grabbing the cold, metal railing of my hospital bed to steady myself. My heart pounded against my chest and a bead of sweat trickled down the side of my temple.
Thousands of girls stood on the pavement below, blocking the roads and jumping up and down wildly. Countless guards stood with their arms out, shielding the building form anyone who tried to get in. The girls held signs above their heads and screamed and screamed and screamed some more.
I held my breath and tore my gaze away from the window, grabbing the glass of water and gulping it down to calm my burning cheeks. Niall put his arm around my shoulders and and rubbed my back reassuringly.
"Are you alright, Beth?" He asked me concernedly.
I shifted uncomfortably under his arm and exhaled slowly, then nodded.
Liam turned to the nurse. "It was nice meeting you, but would you mind giving us a bit of space?" He asked her politely in his deep, sturdy voice. The muscles flexed in his arms as he thrust his big hands into his jean pockets.
