Chpt 9 - Demons *Warning:Violent Scenes*

The whining or the tires and rythmic clatter of seams in the pavement soothed me as we trundled along the road, roaming the streets of perpetual neighborhoods. I watched on in wonder as kids played in their front-yards and rode their bikes along side our car. Laughing and giggling, rosy cheeks, sprinting as fast as their tiny legs could carry them. Or sitting in the grass, making daisy chains for their friends, who sat before them, wearing fluroescant pink dresses studded with flowers and cheap, plastic high-heels. Blowing iridescent bubbles that floated into the sky, fizzing and popping in the warm evening air like lemonade on a hot summer day. Propping my elbows at the rim of the car's window, I smiled slightly as two little girls waved at me, their glittery bracelets rattling about.

"I'm surprised he hasn't visited you yet..." A warm, distinctive voice said.

I turned my head in Niall's direction and watched as he gripped the steering-wheel tightly, his bright eyes set on the road ahead of him. He closed and unclosed his fists, and his eyebrows furrowed as he was deep in thought. I smiled and looked down at my hands. He was worrying about me. It felt good to know someone cared.

I brought my fingers to my mouth and began to chew at my nails, my brain finally processing what Niall had said.

"Who?" I asked naively. Niall chuckled briefly and shook his head slowly.

"Whats so funny?!" I squeaked, slightly annoyed.

"Oh, Beth. You're so innocent.." He glanced at me before turning his attention back to the road. "Your Dad." He answered.

I sighed. I didn't want to stay the night at my Father's place; I wanted to stay in Ruby and I's apartment. For some reason I had created this whole entire list in my head about all of the reasons I wouldn't like my Dad. I mentally scolded my self. You're just overreacting.

After a long moment of silence, Niall turned to me.

"So..." He started. "Let's play twenty questions." He suggested, glancing over at me and giving me a cheeky grin.

" I know all about you; it's time you get to know me." His eyes twinkled.

I shook my head quickly. "B-But I already know about you.." I started.

Niall looked over at me again, his dark eyebrows raised. "You do?"

I nodded quickly, desperately wanting to believe that I was close to him, and still knew all about him.

"I do! I know that you're a singer and that your birthday is in..." I searched his eyes, determined to prove to him that I knew who he was.

"August?" I asked more than stated.

"September." He corrected me, his face braking into a cocky grin.

I crossed my arms , bringing my knees to my chest and pouted.

"So maybe I don't know all about you.." I sighed, my cheeks burning.

I desperately wanted to change the subject.

"How long until we get there?" I asked, hiding my reluctance to visit my Father.

"It's just around the corner." He said, swerving the steering-wheel all the way around until we turned down a quite, homely looking road. I studied the houses carefully, they were mostly brick, but some were made of beige plaster. Few kids were playing down this street, although I did see a teenage boy, storming out of his house and into the front garden, sitting on the curb and fuming.
