Chpt 15 - Don't bother hiding

Ruby had driven Niall and I to the medical centre, so I could have my cast removed, so I could collect my prescribed medication and so that the doctors could check up on how Niall was after his unnecessary bravery in the early hours of this morning.

As we walked out of the hospital and to Ruby's car, which was parked conveniently near the automatic doors; I turned to Ruby and asked her, "So, what are we going to with the rest of the day?" I glanced down at my phone to check the time, it was 2:00pm. Ruby shrugged, getting into the drivers side of her Mercedes and pressing the keys into the ignition. "Well, I'll drop you at your appointment with Mr.Tanglewood; that will take around an hour, and after that we have the rest of the day off!" She chirped, backing out of the narrow car-park she had chosen earlier.

She squinted slightly into the sun as she drove into the street, so I passed her my sunglasses. Ever since I learned that the reason why I was in a coma was because of a car crash, I had grown increasingly paranoid about people's driving skills and the conditions they were driving in. Ruby took the sunglasses gratefully and placed them over her eyes. I raised my hand to shield my eyes from the relentless sun, scrunching up my nose. I was thankful for the chunky bangles that covered the marks on my wrists.

I was wearing a black, strapless top along with a colorful maxi skirt; a silver heart necklace strung loosely around my neck. I had managed to drag a brush through my disheveled hair and pinned back my front layers to keep them out of my face, fixing them with two bobby pins in the shape of an X.

Niall sat in the back seat, texting someone on his sleek, white iPhone 5. I listened to the rhythmic tapping of the keys as he typed away with his thumbs, leaning back in seat carelessly. His normally perky blonde quiff was looking rather flat today, but was still as thick and attractively mussed up as ever. One of his large hands was brought to his face and played randomly with the tiny bit of stubble sprinkled across his chin. He wore a simple black and white tank top, which was slightly to loose and a pair of ray-bans to cover his black-eye.

I smiled as I realized what a mess Niall and I must look; with matching black-eyes and bruises scarring our bodies. I pulled up my long skirt and grazed my hands carefully over the fluroesant green cast covering my right leg, sighing. I was glad that I had had the left one removed, but I still had to limp around on crutches; courtesy of my dad.

Ruby had skillfully applied my makeup for me, covering my bruises and cuts expertly. I had pulled out a pair of shorts, but she had shook her head at me disapprovingly.

"If you wear that, everyone will see all your wounds." She explained bluntly; as if she was scolding a child; grabbing the shorts and folding them neatly, then placing them in my drawers. "You don't seem to have any obvious bruises or cuts around your neck area," She said, gesturing blatantly with her hands. She had thought for a moment, them turned to rumage through my drawers once again. She pulled out a simple black, strapless, bustier top and went into my walk in closet; appearing moments later with a long colorful maxi skirt. She handed them both to me. "Put these on." She instructed. I peered at the slightly revealing shirt cautiously. Wearing this would expose my bony shoulders and collar-bones, showing the world how thin I had become. Nevertheless, I strutted into my en-suite to get changed.

A thought popped into my mind. "Could we get ice-cream?!" I suggested excitedly, bouncing up and down in my seat like a child. Just the thought of the sweet, dripping iced treat had my mouth watering; I would give anything for one on a hot day like this. I saw Niall's ears perk up slightly and he looked at me over the top of his sunglasses.

Ruby laughed her high-pitched, musical laugh and shook her head at me, tutting dramatically. "Sure. What made you think of that?" She queried, glancing across at me as she turned down into a cute vintage town that had the buildings reminding me of toys; complete with candy store, bakery and all.
