JOSEPH'S POV

I was officially the most lucky person in the world.

I mean, what were the odds that both people that knew my secret ended up dead. Well, to be fair...

I kinda did push the odds to be in my favor.

But no one needed to know that. Especially not at Ellie's funeral. They were burying an empty casket. I looked around and saw everyone's faces. Some were sad that we had lost one of our own, even though almost no one knew her. Some were saying good riddance. Because it was. Her with her original family boasting almost all the time. I mean, I was an original family but you didn't hear me tell everyone about it.

I just wanted to get out of this Academy. Out of this lifestyle. It had almost killed me when I had to watch Faye be handed over to a couple of wolves. They had looked solemn. But their Alpha was smiling gleefully, it freaked me out. I thought packs worked together but hey, they're wolves. They're a bunch of backstabbing monsters.

So who cared if I had been the reason Jake was dead? He was a nobody. He was expandable. They knew my secret and I needed to get rid of them. So it was easy to strike a deal with the wolves to come get him. Except Ellie didn't die in that alley. And I had no more money to bribe the wolves without my parents asking why.

So I hit her with a car.

Sloppy and not effective. But it looked like an accident. And it's probably why the wolves were able to take her from her room.

It wasn't that I hated Ellie. And it certainly wasn't the story of a boy who can't get noticed by a girl so he bullies her. No, we were great friends up until her parents died. My father, who had always liked Ellie's fire, was going to adopt her. Could you imagine? If she came and lived with me, my father would never lay an eye on me again. So I pushed her the next day. We had gotten into a fight, she was so confused I was able to beat her and win. My father never thought she was stronger or smarter than me again. But everyone knew she was.

Because she was Elliana Matthias. And the Matthias's had always been the more ruthless hunters.

"I know you're secret" I look at the guy in front off me. Dante.

"What secret?" Three people was a bit of a stretch. I mean, if he dropped dead suddenly, people were going to begin suspecting something.

"Sorry, secrets" He fixes. I shake my head and walk away when he grabs my arm.

"Such a coincidence that the two people who knew about the guy ended up dead. And in such a short time period too. And funny that the wolves were all silenced before they could say anything? So if you still don't know what I'm talking about, then maybe I should yell it to the school. Maybe that will jog your memory?" He threatens. I swallow. I was done. I was found out.

"How did you find out?" I spit at him. They didn't tell him did they?

"I'm not an idiot. It's my Fuller blood. We're detectives" He says.

"What do you want from me? Money?" I ask.

"You're a disgusting piece of trash you know that?" He asks shaking his head. As if he could be bought with money.

"Then what do you want?" Suddenly angry that he was just playing me. He looks at me and smiles.

"I looked into Elliana's room and noticed something" He pulls out a small necklace.

"So?" He gave me a look as if saying 'how stupid are you?'

"We are going to go find Elliana. Because she isn't dead"
