Hunted

Chapter 16

"We have to leave" Chase says, barging into my cell. 

"What?" I ask. 

"We've got to get out of here. Leo's gone to Alpha Alric's but when he comes back, you're dead. So as I said originally, we have to leave" 

"And go where Chase? Don't be stupid. This is your pack" 

"And your my mate" He says almost immediately. "And you mean more to me than this pack ever will" 

Something inside, deep down inside, flutters when I hear his words. 

"But this is your family" I say quietly. Sure, the idea of running away with my mate, who I haven't even fully accepted, and leaving the hunting world behind was amazing. But as amazing as it was, it was far-fetched. And I doubt it would end well. 

"I was raised killing wolves and now you want me to runaway with one and live our lives together?" I say in disbelief. "Don't be stupid"

"Leo is going to kill you the second he gets back" Chase shouts at me. "You understand that, the second he gets through that door, you'll be nothing but a memory. Wiped off this Earth. Or you could come with me, we can go anywhere. I'll go with you anywhere. Just please" He begs. 

"Please come with me" He says, his eyes boring into mine. 

They were such a lovely shade of green...

"No" I say. "It's stupid. I don't even love you" 

He kisses me. 

And the feeling that I'd been sporting, the one that it was as if I'd been split in two, vanishes the second his lips take mine. As if it was him who was the other part. 

God dammit!

I pull him closer to me and knot my fingers in his hair, he groans and pulls apart. The green in his eyes now black. So now I meet his wolf. 

"You'll come with me, my mate. Willingly or forced, choose which ever. I'm fine with both" His voice sounding different. He smirks, his eyes still pitch black. "And then we can kiss whenever you want, or more" 

Well, that definitely sounded pleasing.

"I still think this is stupid" I say as Chase enters my cell. 

"Love makes you do stupid things" Chase replies. He throws something at me which I catch. 

"Spray that all over you, it'll mask our scents. There's this place, it's around three days away from here. I think we can stay there until I find another place. But I think we'll have to leave this continent. Scratch that, hemisphere. Australia's pretty cool" Chase says. I spray the thing all over me. 

"How are we getting there?" I ask watching Chase. He smiles boyishly. 

"Well...." And then he bites his lip, totally sexily. "Your pretty light so I'm sure you could-" 

"No way" I say sternly. "I am not riding you!" 

"Gosh, you make it sound so dirty" He jokes. 

"Chase!" 

"Okay, sorry, but it's our only choice" 

"Cars have been invented you know?" 

"Cars leave a trail. I can take the forests, we'll be covered and it'll be quicker" 

"No" 

"El, we have to leave now. I don't have time to fight with you" And he pulls his shirt off. 

Don't look at his torso. No, Ellina, don't you dare. 

And then his hands fly to his zipper. I close my eyes immediately and he laughs. I hear snapping and then something soft nudges against my elbow. My breath hitches as I look at the wolf. I run my fingers through the dark brown fur which emits a purr from it. 

From Chase. 

It stares at me. And I stand up. I grab the backpack that Chase had and place it on my back. 

"And this won't hurt you?" I ask, still patting him. He lets out a small howl. Which I'm pretty sure meant no. Just as I'm about to swing my leg over him, the door slams open. 

"Elliana!" I freeze at the voice. Chase turns and growls. 

"No, stop" I tell him. He whines. 

"Joseph?" Chase's ears perk up in recognition and in a flash, he's attacked Joseph. 

"Chase!" I shout as I hear Joseph's gun go off. My heart falls. Chase howls in pain and I move and push Joseph off him. Joseph hits me in the nose. I stumble back and Chase lunges forward and grabs Joseph's throat in his teeth. 

And then I spot the gun. 

How long has it been since I held a gun? 

A malicious urge to hold it, a desire to kill something, anything. 

I pick it up in my hands, the cold steel feeling so right in my hands. 

So much better than kissing Chase. 

"E-Elliana" Joseph chokes out. "Kill it" 

Kill Chase? You couldn't. He's your mate. He'll take you out of this life. He promised. 

And you believe him? He's a wolf. You can't trust wolves. But you can kill them. KILL HIM. 

I look at them. One of them had to die. And I had to choose. 

The wolf howls as if telling me to kill Joseph. 

Kill Joseph, I mean, you'd be doing the world a favour. 

I raise the gun.

A/N

Sorry for the cliffhanger but anyway, the book will be finished tomorrow. Two chapters left we have 17-the happy ending and we have 18-the realistic ending. So choose or read both or whatever you'd like.
