Wow. I can't believe it. My partner at NYPD, Billy Soto, told me that Jake is going to propose to Jennifer tonight. Too much has been going on lately.
I leave the NYPD and go to my car. I pull out of the driveway, tears pouring down my face. When I finally get home, it starts to rain. I get inside the house to find my sister, Lucy, getting my boys upstairs to bed.
"Hey Lucy," I say, sniffling.
"Laura, what's wrong?" Lucy asks in concern.
We both sit down on the couch as I start to explain everything.
"So Billy told me earlier that Jake is taking Jennifer out so he can propose to her. They're at the restaurant right now."
"Oh, Laura, I am so sorry."
I lay my head against Lucy and start sobbing even harder than before. I am taken into her embrace, which makes me feel a little better.
"I just wish I could stop Jake from proposing to Jennifer."
"But what if you could?"
I quickly sit up and look at Lucy, confused. "What are you talking about?"
"Just go to the restaurant that they're at and stop him from proposing. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing if he's giving up on the most amazing woman I know."
I smile. I never thought that Lucy would say anything like that.
"Aww, Lucy. Thank you. I guess you're not a bad sister after all."
Lucy smiles in response.
"Well what are you waiting for? Go get your man!"
"Oh, yeah. Bye."
Without thinking, I run to my car in the pouring rain. I then back out of the driveway and speed to the restaurant to stop Jake.
