Two weeks later, Jake and I were back together. Jake had broke up with Jennifer the day after we kissed. Everything started to fall back into place. It was all just like it was supposed to be.
It was Friday afternoon at NYPD. Jake had the afternoon off while I had to stay and work with Max.
"So, how are things between you and Jake since you got back together?" Max asks.
Of course. Max is all about the gossip.
"Things are great. Seriously, I couldn't be happier."
"That's amazing! But really, I am so glad that you two got back together."
"Thanks."
We continue our conversation as we work on a homicide case together. Max and I had been getting so close since Santiani died. It was nice to have someone else there for me, besides Jake.
A few minutes later, my phone starts to ring. I pick it up and see that it is Meredith Bose, one of my other partners at NYPD.
"I need to take this," I tell Max.
"Alright. Go ahead."
I get up and walk to the other side of the room and answer the call.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Laura, you need to come to the hospital. Its an emergency."
She pauses for a minute. I didn't like the sound of this.
"Its Jake."
