The next day at NYPD, I tried to get my mind off of kissing Jake and Jennifer's hand with the ring by focusing on a homicide case. But I couldn't. Every time Jake was next to me while trying to help me on the case, he wouldn't bring up the kiss. Neither did I, but I thought he would say something about it.
I also couldn't stop thinking about Santiani. The more I worked on finding a suspect for this homicide, the more I kept thinking about that press conference, the shot that took my friend's life.
*Flashback*
Even though I didn't want to, I stood in the front of a conference room full of people for Santiani's press conference. I had to do it. I was part of the mission to arrest that one guy. I can't even remember his name. But I also did it for her.
Soon the press conference began. Santiani stood behind the podium while I stood to the side of her. She started to speak about our accomplishment and answered as many questions as she could.
The conference was quickly coming to a close. "Thank you all for coming out tonight," Santiani says."And I would also like to thank my partner at NYPD, Laura Diamond, for all of the hard work she put into this case."
The crowd erupted into an applause. That was when the worst thing happened. A bang sounded and I watched Santiani fall to the ground. Everyone in the room was hurrying out in fear. I was immediately by Santiani's side, holding her in my arms. Tears started flowing down my cheeks.
"You can't leave me," I say to her. "Not now."
"Do what you were born to do," Santiani croaks. "I believe in you Diamond."
I then watched her die in my arms. It was the most horrible moment of my life.
*End of Flashback*
Someone snapped me out of my daze. It was Max.
"Are you ok?"
"No, not really."
"You're thinking about Santiani, aren't you?"
"Yeah, I really miss her."
To my surprise, Max pulled me into a hug. "You're not the only that misses her. Its been hard for me too."
For the first time in 2 days, I smiled.
