I stared down at the paper I began to write. The report to my superiors. I had barely any information. I'd look like a fool walking in there with this. I grabbed the paper and tore it in half angrily. The face of the young girl echoed in my mind. The agency put me on the case, it's my job to find out what is going on. I grabbed a notepad and a pen. What was it?
"DeathBullet?" I said to myself.
"No... What about ShotDead?" I bit my lip and tapped my pen. "Hmmm.... Deadshot!" I shouted.
"Why does that sound so familiar?" I squinted my eyes. I've heard someone called that before. She also said something about Theseus. It all sounds so familiar. Images flashed through my mind. Turning the pages like a book. Suddenly, it stopped. A man with black hair and a chisled chin stood in a picture. That's him. That's my dad. Not emotionally my dad, all he did was fuck my mom and then leave. I only heard his name once, but I'll never forget it. I don't want to find him. But my job relies on it. I immediately called my mom. Thoughts filled my mind.
"I'm looking for Theseus" I bit my lip.
"Are you sure you're ready?" She asked quietly.
"No. But it's about a case" I frowned.
"Sweetie, your father is a dangerous man, I would drop your case" My mother sighed.
"What? No, you said he was a detective" I frowned deeply.
"Well I lied" She swallowed hard.
"He's the reason I joined the force. You're telling me it's all a lie. The thing pushing me to make my dreams happen is just a lie" I raised my voice.
"Honey... No" She trailed off.
"Just tell me where to find him" I rubbed the tears whelming in my eyes.
"I'll text it to you" She said solemnly. I hung up on her before she could say anything else. She texted me the place where I can find him. The address led directly to the bad part of town. My mom followed the text with another saying to go at night, and to wear something nice. I searched online for Annie Winchester. How does she know my father? I couldn't find any records. She claims she was from the 1800s. How. How is she alive. How does she connect? I went through google and every search engie I could find. I'll have to test the name at the police database. It quickly became 9pm. I grabbed my keys and trotted out of my apartment and to my car. I slipped in the driver seat. I turned the ignition and sped off into the distance. I found myself in the ghetto district rather quickly. Women stood on the streets. Prostitutes. People strided down the streets covered in gang attire. I finally found the decorated building. It was a club. Of sorts. It was called "Deadshot". Maybe that's what the girl was trying to tell me. I looked down at the clothes I was wearing. This should be fine. I was wear a black short miniskirt and a purple blouse. I hopped out and walked in. People danced and grinded on each other. Bright lights blinded me every minute. Where would he be here? A bodyguard stood staring into the crowd. I approached him cautiously.
"I'm looking for Theseus" I frowned. The guard shook his head and beckoned for me to follow him. I tailed behind him into a room off to the side. It was dimly lit. It was a corridor. The lights flickered. I was scared, and I forgot my gun. He turned a corner sharply into the door. He opened it and I stepped in. A concrete room had a couch and neon lights. A woman danced in front of me.
"A customer, get the hell out of here" A voice shouted and obviously slapped the girl on the rear. She jumped up, clad in barely anything. She ran out behind me. I stared the man dead im the eyes.
"I am guessing you're here for my services. Have a seat" He grinned and had his bodyguard pull up a chair. We sat in silence. "Look, I know you're a cop" The man cracked his knuckles.
"Are you Theseus?" I asked.
"The one and only, but I go by Deadshot now" He smirked.
"Well-" He cut me off.
"Whatever it is, I didn't do it. And I assume you know I'm a bounty hunter. But I haven't killed anyone who had any worth living" He stared at me.
"It's actually about a case I'm working on. You aren't in any trouble" I frowned.
"Oh good, the last cop who tried to take me ended up dead on the pavement just outside this door" He smiled, showing his teeth.
"Okay. It's actually about a girl claiming to be Annie Winchester. She was found at-" He cut me off.
"The bottom of the ocean just outside the coast" His attitude completely changed.
"You've probably read the news, then. Well she asked for you" I crossed my arms. He stared forward, not even looking at me. He looked surprised. He was thinking.
"Where is she now" He said with no emotion.
"They checked her into the hospital on 52nd street" I answered confused.
"Thats the looney bin" He still stared forward. No emotion. Very different from when I walked in. He jumped up and grabbed his jacket, and walked out the door.
"Where are you going?" I walked quickly behind. He didn't answer, but I had a pretty good guess.
"You have a car?" He asked as he power walked outside the club.
"Yeah, the white four door sedan" I frowned. He grabbed my keys from my hands and clicked the button. He jumped into the drivers seat and turned the ignition.
"We can't go now, it's too early" I sighed.
"I know" He stated forward and slammed down the pedal. We flew forward. He didn't know he had a daughter. I could tell. He looked pretty young. He looked my age. He should be in his 50s by now. The car slid to a stop. He jumped out and walked quickly to the huge hospital. It was an upgraded psychiatric ward. We walked to the shaded doors. Theseus pushed forward on the doors. They were locked. He swung his fist at the door angrily. Nothing still happened.
"Follow me" He beckoned to me. He snuck around to the back of the building and found the fence that blocked off the backyard/pen from the outside world. Deadshot ran forward and mounted the fence. He fell to the other side. I ran foward and jumped over it too. He looked slightly surprised. We snuck to the back door. He rattled the knob.
"This is kind of illegal" I frowned.
"You're not gonna take me in, are you?" He joked.
"No... I'm not" I looked down. He doesn't even know who I am.
"I never asked your name" He continued to attempt to pick the lock.
"My name is Athen" I frowned.
"I like that name. The greek hero, Theseus was actually the king of Athens at one point" He rattled the door knob again.
"You really like Greek mythology, huh?" I asked.
"My granpda used to read it to my sister and I" He responded.
"You have a sister?" I asked. An aunt?
"Not anymore" He swallowed hard. "No more questions, okay?" He finally got the door unlocked. We walk in slowly expecting guards and nurses to immediately tackle us. The hallway was dark and empty. Cold and lifeless.
"She's in room 223" I frown.
"Just down the hall" Deadshot beckoned for me to follow. We turned the corner quickly. Room 223 was right around the corner. Deadshot pushed on the handle. Nothing. I knocked quietly on the door.
"Damn, requires a key card" Deadshot whispered. I hear movement from the other side of the door. A thin keycard is slipped underneath the door. Deadshot smiled to himself. He reached down and grabbed the card. He slipped it into the scanner. The door slowly swung open, like walking into a new world. Deadshot stood staring into the room. Annie stood next to the bed. They stared at eachother for a while. Suddenly, in sync, they ran towards eachother and jumped into each other's arms. They both held tight.
"It's been over 200 years" Deadshot spoke out hoarsely. Their eyes were closed, savoring the moment.
"I know" Annie whispered.
"Are you okay?" Deadshot asked quietly.
"No" She responded.
"We are getting you out of here. Then we can live like we've always planned" Deadshot smiled. Annie kept a concerned look on her face.
"No" She frowned again.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I'll never be normal again" Annie clasped Deadshot harder.
"No.... Honey, everything will get better" He embraced her harder.
"I close my eyes, and all I see is an eternity of empty, dark, cold, water" She shivered and opened her eyes quickly.
"I love you" Deadshot sprang out. She clutched him tightly. She didn't respond.
"Who's the woman?" She asked quietly.
"I'm his daughter" I stared forward, waiting for the response.
"Wha-what?" Deadshot let go of Annie and turned around.
"Yeah, surprise to me too. Not sure if you remember Ellie Martins. She's my mom. She claims you were a detective, but she is also a damn good liar" I shifted my weight to one side. Deadshot fell to the ground like a rock. He made a loud thud when he hit the ground.
