Chapter 20: As the world falls down

Clariss’s P.O.V:

I was very sad due to Asa’s depart. Who was I kidding I was devastated. I couldn’t believe what he did, I knew it was his work and all but.. I was his girlfriend! I always told myself that I would date or marry guys that take time for other things,. I wouldn’t marry a guy who’d be 20 hours working and when he’d come home and he’d go to sleep. Well, Asa seemed to be turning into someone like that. I decided to go talk to Robert, I really needed that right now. I found Robert sitting on the couch staring at the wall. I approached him.

“Robert, may I talk to you?”

He turned to see me and his face lit.

“Of course!” he made room for me to sit

“So what’s up?” he asked

“Umm, well.. it’s about Asa.”  I said

“Hmm, what about him?” he asked

“Well, he left for his ‘work’, what do you think about that?” I asked him

“Look, you love Asa and Asa loves you right?” he asked

‘’Well yeah..but”

“But nothing, it’s simple. You both love each other. You know I would have died for you, but you chose him. Why? Because I believe that ever since you met him you fell for him. But, you guys weren’t able to tell each other until now. Love is love, you can’t compete with that, you can’t deny love otherwise it will keep hunting you. It will destroy you. Just play it simple, keep loving him.” He finished off

I was surprised at his wise words about love. “Wow, you are so right! Where did you learn all this stuff?!!” I asked him

He stood up.

“ Well, I’ve got my times, where, you know.. I talk like a fortune cookie. Look Clariss, honestly.. I still have feelings for you, but I’ve learned to control myself, I respect the fact that you love Asa, because honestly.. he’s a good guy. I can tell he’s your Romeo.” He said, and winked at me

He left the room casually. I was left there, I was left there, trying to make up my mind. I went up to Robert.

“Hey, thank you.” I said

“You’re Welcome” he smiled

“So um you want to go get some gelato?” he asked

“Let’s go” I said

I was convinced Robert was a very good guy, he cared and was very honest. At times he could be very annoying and get on my nerves, but he was just very simple ad honest to himself. I wanted to know him more. I felt bad, ever since I met him, I had given him a hard time. I barely knew him. On te other hand, he knew almost every detail about me.

We walked and talked what about seemed hours. We laughed, we joked, we smiled. We talked about how I hadn’t seen my siblings in a while. Which was true. I missed them so much. Francesco, Valentina, and Isabella. I missed how Francesco was so annoying in a brotherly way, I missed Valentina’s way of being a chatterbox and telling me what she did in school. Most of all I missed Isabella, she was growing so fast every day and I was missing out. Of course I couldn’t forget my mother, she was a big part of my life.

We decided to go to Venice to ride on a boat. Life so far was cool, I had forgotten every detail I had felt when Asa left. Now, I felt like I had a purpose. I felt more alive. Robert was really growing on me, he just knew so much, and listened to me, gave me advice, and made me laugh. He would talk to me about himself and his family, and how his dad was never really around. He told me how nervous he was the first day of school, and how he came to befriend me so fast. He said that he developed love at first sight when he saw me. He said that he didn’t even know what love is until he met me. I was so touched about his story, I couldn’t believe how I ignored him so much. I actually regretted it. But oh well.

Robert was winning the inside of me. The funny thing is that he was already learning Italian. He could keep up with a basic conversation and understand a little. It made me giggle. He just tried so hard to make an Italian accent every time he spoke. Oh, if only Asa would be here. I tried not to think so much about him. I just hoped he was doing well with the Ender’s Game thing. He just loved that stuff. He even gave a copy of the book. I was thinking about him when I got a text from my mom. It was  a picture of Isabella, she was turning 8 months today. Awww, I wish I was there. I couldn’t believe that in 4 more months she’d be 1 year old. I missed them so much.

I was thinking of going back to New York. I mean, I loved Italy.. but my hometown was New York. That’s where I had most memories, that’s where I found out who I was, that’s where I met Asa. I took a look at the calendar, and realized that I could go back in 2 more days. I was excited. Although, my dad had been working so hard on founding a loft or house with a room for me. I felt bad, but I was becoming homesick.

I was looking at some pictures, when I got a migrane. When all of a sudden, everything turned black. I heard many voices in the back, especially Robert’s. He was screaming something about an ambulance.

Asa’s P.O.V

My world is falling apart. I loved my work, and I loved being in the Ender’s Game set but it wasn’t the same. I missed Clariss. I just hoped she was okay. I got a voicemail from Robert telling me to answer. I was confused his voice seemed so shaky, and panicky. My heart started to beat very fast. I suddenly got a phone call from an unknown number. I answered to hear Robert telling me that Clariss was in the hospital. She was in a coma. My heart sank. I dropped the phone, and did the most manly thing I could come up with. I started to cry.
